My car started acting up a few days ago. It fell flat on it's face when I went wide open so I decided to try it again and I noticed the air fuels were going lean. The walbro pump started whining louder than ever before. I thought the fuel filter was clogged since I haven't cleaned it since the ethanol swap. I took the filter off and it was clean. Put the filter back on and it was leaking from the bottom fitting to the earl fuel filter. I took it off and put it back on again and it is still leaking. I am thinking that the filter was leaking before I removed it causing lean air fuels at wide open because of no fuel pressure which makes the pump work harder and become louder. Also the hard lines flare to that fitting looks rough on the edge of the flare. I am wondering if I need to reflare the line? Is there suppose to be a o-ring or washer between the filter and fitting?

Any help is apreciated Thanks

What fuel filter do you have? Do you have an adapter between the factory hard line and your aftermarket fuel filter? Usually you need an Earls saginaw adapter to seal properly there. The factory lines uses a conical seal there instead of any orings or crush washers. The saginaw adapter isn't the correct type of seal, but it's worked for quite a few people (me included).

I have the earls fuel filter with the earl fittings. It hooks to a hard line a little bit bigger than the stock one. I bought it used off another 1g.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean by it hooks into a hard line a little larger than stock.

Jeff Lucius has a really good writeup here:

Stealth 316 - Fuel Filter Upgrade

I basically used the M14x1.5 saginaw adapter. That hooks directly to the factory hard line in the engine bay. I then used a 6AN female coupler that goes into my Golan 6AN fuel filter. That's about it. If your fuel filter has a 6AN female inlet you can skip the coupler. Mine was 6AN male on both ends. Hope this helps.

I think you only need the oring if that adapter is used in the GM application it was designed for. In our application, it doesn't need the oring since the flare on the stock line seals in the saginaw adapter.

Do you not still have this part of the factory hard line anymore? I know the adapter works if you're looking for a decent solution. This would be much easier than re-flaring the line, FWIW.

I have a hard line that has a flare that seals against the saginaw adapter then to the conical side of the filter. The end of the flare looks rough like I cranked on it to hard or something. This is why I want to reflare it. The conical side looks a little beat up too. I was looking at these conical seals that earls sells this might do the trick. Also I am almost posistive there wasn't supposed to put an o-ring there.
