i have a 91 tsi awd turbo
and it is knocking when it get to around 2 or 2 and haft grand
is this my rod bearing going out??

ok so i pulled out #4 wire and it went away and 1 2 and 3 it stayed the same
could this be crankwalk or just the rod bearing in #4???

ok good, i just heard alot about crankwalk on dsm and never really had to deal with issue on anything else i have had.........

Definitely a rod bearing. I rebuilt my engine not too long ago for the same reason (cylinder 1 went out). Do yourself a favor and park it now before you ruin the crank and need to have it replaced/resurfaced.

it has been parked....this weekend i go get some rod bearing and see if i can't get out of this easy

Also a good trick is to rub the crank surface with a penny. The point of this is that the copper on the penny is much softer than the steel of the crank, so if there are any substantial grooves it will pick up copper. That's usually a sign that the crank needs to be ground/micropolished.

i'll take it apart soon and post up pic of the bearing...i think it should be alright..i shut it off and parked it as soon as i heard the knock
