Biggest myth ever. HIIT training will yield the fastest results and take the least amount of time.
When people jog they burn both muscle and fat, when people do hiit training they burn muscle and fat. This is why people increase the protein intake and do light to heavy lifting to help build or sustain mucsle instead of lose it.
He's right on this one. HIIT training will make you shredded if you commit to it. Will you lose weight doing only "light cardio" (i.e.-brisk walking on an incline)? Absolutely. It will take much longer to lose the same weight, though. The difference between the HIIT training and the sustained cardio is that the body responds much better to the multiple short "bursts" of movements (like sprinting 40 yards) over than the longer, sustained cardio. It has to do with the quickly rising heart rate, and it's cool down period until it returns to normal. I've seen a lot of discussions on this and will try and locate additional information if you are interested. Protein again is paramount though.
. If you just don't know how to start the diet part sign up for weightwatchersonline and use their points system where you make your own food. After 3 months of using that- you will know how to eat right.
. I work at C&S wholesale grocers and I've been on disabilty twice for back issues I've had since a kid (scoliosis). Well, the recent time I went out was for 7 months. Came back to work 7 months later with an added 30lbs. Most I've ever weighed at 215 and I'm 6ft. If working a desk job, just stay active and not be a slouch/bum. I just sat around all day playing videogames and drinking beer and kept my high caloric intake and it hit my gut and everything else. Being back at work has dropped me 20lbs over 3 months. Eat right, stay focused and it'll drop. Make sure you are supportive for your wife with what she's going through and I hope it all turns out well for you both.
