Well I know this might be stupid but i would really like if someone could help me identifying what kind of motor i have and what kind of turbo because the guy i bought it from didnts seem to know much about dsms he told me that it was an evo motor but he didnt know which, and he also said that its a 16g turbo (Big, Small) he didnt know. Well here is the Engine

and here is the Turbo

Looks like 2g intake manifold and throttle body.

Hope he didn't trick you by saying its an EVO motor, when what he meant was it's LIKE the EVO motor because its a 4g63, but in reality its just a stock 7bolt with 1g dipstick and a big16g. ;)

That looks like a big 16g turbo and engine with a modified intake piping. (4g63t engine, TDO5H turbo housing)
Whether it's a six bolt or seven bolt crank, that depends on the year/model.
Check the sticker on the under side of the hood or the plate on the front near the bottom of the engine, just above the alternator, to verify the engine model

I had to edit because I was thinking the TD05H was the stock number, but I guess that is the big 16g... ;)

Well i cant check under the hood because this car had a motor swap and also i bought it for 900$ because the car wouldnt drive and and only idle for about 10 minutes but im fixing that little by little.

Umm.. also how can i really tell if its a big 16g or regualr 16g if i dont have the other one to compare it to?

www.vfaq.com is your friend......... And as you can clearly see that even the people above don't know how to actually figure out what they have....Therefore I would advise doing some research from well known sources and don't accept the first answer you get....Redturboeclipse did however state the truth.....

Supporting Facts that its a 2G
2G Intake
2G TB Elbow
2G Radiator Setup

Facts Against
Has CAS (Cam Angle Sensor means that its at least a 97-99 more than likely)

However as far as the turbo... Im unaware of how to tell what the actual turbo is unless you can see the fin pattern on the intake side of the turbo....Maybe "architechnik" can tell us how they figured it out... I'd try and find a Crank sensor to see if it were indeed a 2G motor....I'm guessing its a mix of all the above ;)

TD05H can be anything from a 14b to an 20G.....Alot of mutts are out there....

JDM Motor ^^^^^ This is probably what you have with a mixture of parts on there...

http://vfaq.com/mods/early-late-engine.html
How to tell if its a 6 Bolt or 7 bolt ^^^^^^^

BTW a 14b has single fins all the same size a 16g will have a variation....A long fin with a small fin following...So the order would go large fin, small fin, large fin and so on...:thumb:

"Architechnik" What kind of turbo is this below????

This is a pic of a tdo5h EVO 3 16g
All 16g's have the same fin pattern.

This is a pic of a tdo5h 14b.

In order to tell if you have either a big 16g or a small 16g just look at the serial number on the side of the compressor housing.....you might have to take off your intake pipe in order to see it.
It should start with 49178-xxxxx

Here are the serial numbers for tdo5h turbos
Big 16g: 49178-01420
Small 16g: 49178-01520
14b: 49178-01410

And the serial number for an EVO 3 16g :)
49178-01470

Hope that helps you out!!!!

1st. It might not be just your average 7bolt.

Notice, CAS, different, valve cover....also different...spark plug cover has some markings on it as if it were sold through a used motor importer.(not to say it is 100% true, but possible).

The only way to tell what turbo it is will be by pulling the intake off checking the blades, and then checking the ID# on the oposite side of the compressor housing.

Also: CD9A is a chasis code for a 92' Evo...wonder if the previous owner was just being clever.

Thats what the guy i bought it from actually said, but a mechanic that i met had told me that an evo I is actually a RWD so i started to think that its probably an evo III motor since those are more common swaps.
But after research i realized that there was never a RWD Lancer

It's a JDM motor. Spark pklug cover is JDM, Timing belt covers are black on JDM, coil pack local and intake are Lancer

How do you tell the difference in the 16g turbos. I have one that was polished and all the casting numbers are missing. I curious to know if it is a small, big or evo 16
