Ok my cars bov on second gear kicks in at about 5k is this normal?? And my type s makes a flutter at a lower boost does this mean I need to set the screw to soft and hard?? If I step on the pedal I hear the bov whoosh but mixed with a flutter noise to it???

The bov should blow off at any boost level, any gear at any rpm as long as there is boost pressure. Did you do a boost leak test yet?

Check which springs it has in it. My car had compressor surge with both springs in it. Now with the lighter spring and tightened down really "hard" it works great.

Is your wastegate tee'd off from the BOV's signal? The BOV should have it's own dedicated vacuum source.

And I second what BryanWheat has said, especially the boost leak test

Have you read this link yet, it's very easy to understand

Thanks for the link ill check it out my waste gate it teed with the j pipe and the end of that line goes to my my boost soleniod.

Yeah you can't run it like that. The BOV's valve would just float loosing all your boost and you would have a crazy vacuum/boost leak too...I'm pretty sure you knew that, just throwing it out there I guess :coy:

You can disassemble the BOV and tap the threads oversize for a slightly bigger bolt. Or call up Greddy for a replacement 'hat' or whatever the top part is called

Ok cool thanks for the fast reply I'll see if I could get it threaded to a bigger bolt tommorow would to tune it to the harder setting ?

With your symptoms I would actually loosen it up from where it was set before. Like BryanWheat said, it should 'blow off' at any rpm, speed, etc as long as there is boost pressure in the charge pipes. It should not 'flutter' any time and if it is fluttering, that means the valve is rapidly opening and closing not properly letting out all the boost at once

Ok just not sure if my bov was broken or something I just installed the after market 3 port boost controller solenoid for ecmlink and rerouted my bov piping to run under the fuse box and the bov now faces upwards I guess who ever had my car before me had install the pipe with the bov faceing downward where I could not adjust it unless I removed the whole pipe out every time, I also just ordered a boost like tester online but it will be a couple weeks for that to show up.

Yeah I should have do that years ago when I bought the car it's will be better to adjust that's for sure but the 3 port boost solenoid was very easy to install but i have not driven the car yet or set it upon link to see how it works cause I ran into that bov screw issue hopefully I can't find a shop to thread it for me.

Ok so I took it for a ride and the bov does not really sound on 1st gear and on the rest it does I notice when I'm driving and a light boost it still sounds like a bit of a flutter sound on the bov and If I actually really step on its more of a whoosh noise but it's not so loud is this normal behavior for this bov?

Rix

I think that's what I have I'm using the purple greddy type -s

That's not a 1g bov. That's a greddy type s bov. A 1g isn't adjustable so you don't have to worry about doing it wrong and getting flutter like you are. And you can "crush" it to hold more boost. Not trying to be a jerk but it seems to me like you don't really know what you're doing which is why I recommended the 1g bov. Watch those videos above and if you can't figure it out then just sell it or something. All the info in this thread is more than enough to figure out your bov problem.

this has been helpful for me. i just bought a gsx and it has a greddy type s bov. i makes the flutter noise when shifting so i will be tuning it softer and seeing if that helps. thanks guys.
