Help greddy type-s BOV???

Hey guys so heres my issue I have a greddy type-s genuine bov but when I rev my engine I don't get the woosh noise like you see everyone and my bov only sounds when i really step on my car how to I get this set up do that I get proper sound , I have a hose coming from my intake to the bigger to side nipple of the bov and then the big hose from the bov the my cold air intake that attaching to the turbo , and my cold air intake have a hose attach witch come from the pcv valve on the head and suggestions how to get that person woshh sounds??

The big woosh comes from venting your BOV, which is essentially removing that pipe that runs from the BOV to your intake pipe. Be prepared to get flamed by some dudes here over it. There is a proper way to do it (blow through or speed density), and the way most guys do it (ditch the return pipe for the intake and plug the hole in the intake). I could never get my car to run right with a Greddy type S vented, I had more success with ones that were designed to be vented like an RFL, Blitz, which all failed over time or would leak at part throttle. My tial works great though. And most cars respond differently to being vented. You'll get bashed in the head here by some dudes saying the car runs horrible, and I've seen cars that cant even idle when vented. Mine idled and ran fine, but I've since converted to SD.

You could try venting it like stated above. You'll never know how it runs until you try it. And every car is different. When I ran my 1g bov vented it idled slightly low and a little rough but wasn't that bad, and if I put it in neutral while coming to a stop it would die every time. Wasn't worth it for me. I can actually kinda hear my 1g bov still when I do a decent pull even though it's recirculated now.
 
Ok thanks for the tips I was told that running vented can damage the engine is this true ? So many ways to go I wish I knew which would be best I have ECMlink V3 full but that's it I don't have sd or speed density ,

The whole "it's okay to vent" topic comes up every now and then. I don't know when it ever became okay to vent. It's one of the oldest no-no's in the book.

The stock MAF on our cars is pre-turbo. This means it counts every bit of air that comes in before it's compressed. When you let off the throttle, the BOV vents the air back into the intake post MAF since that air is already counted. The ECU, having already counted that air, expects it to reach the engine at some point and gives the proper amount of fuel. Since the vented air is also now helping to feed the engine, there is less air being drawn through the MAF so the ECU won't add much more fuel than the air it's expecting from the BOV.

Now, you take that recirculation tube/pipe off and you have thrown the whole system for a loop. The ECU is expecting X amount of air and gives Y amount of fuel to keep the engine running. But now that X amount of air is vented into the atmosphere, the engine runs rich since the ECU is still going to give Y amount of fuel. To add insult to injury, this increases the amount of air being drawn through the MAF. More air being drawn through the MAF means more fuel. This sometimes shoots the A/F ratio so far into left field that the engine stalls. Some experience no noticeable effects, but they are still wasting fuel, building up carbon, reducing spark plug life, etc etc. Another reason for keeping the tube is that some BOV's will sit open a tiny bit at idle. Now your drawing in unmetered and unfiltered air at idle. It's just not a good idea at all unless you have a blow-through MAF or are running SD. But that seems like a lot of work just for a cool noise.

Now, as for why your BOV isn't making noise while revving. You simply aren't building enough boost to vent. Your only building boost with the engine under a load such as getting on the gas while driving. Yes, some cars on Youtube and such can get a good "whoosh" when revving, but they also have twin scroll ball bearing turbochargers that can literally spin from getting blown on with a straw. My small 16g will only build 1-2psi with launch control set at 4500, and even then I'm sitting at the line for a few seconds to build that boost. So I don't think you have it hooked up wrong, that's just how it works. If you want the sound to be louder, things such as metal intake pipes, thinner recirc tubes (spa hose from Home Depot is excellent), open element air filter, and higher boost (if supporting mods allow) will make the BOV louder as well as help with performance.
 
I do NOT recommend Wobbles "Guide" on the BOV setup, it's filled with false information and all you'll do is get confused, so don't even read it

I have the 16G as well, and like Wes was saying you won't get a BOV sound at idle. If you hear anything from the BOV while popping the throttle at idle that's no good. It should not open that easily, it should only open when there is sufficient boost (I like anything over 2psi) and suddenly closing the throttle plate (ie, actually driving)

I highly recommend reading this link, it's one of the best on BOV's. And if you have any other q's don't hesitate to ask

Ok thanks for your tips and info guys I guess my bov Is set proper cause at idle when I rev I do not hear my bov and when I'm driving and it's under load then I hear it but only if I step on it,

Wait what? I don't understand what you're saying.

With the Greddy type-s BOV the bottom (smaller) port is left untouched. The top (bigger) port is connected to a dedicated vacuum/boost source. It's that simple.

Your intake should not be connected to your BOV.

The bottom port can also be connected to a boost source, BEFORE the throttle plate. It helps in BOV response, but not needed like you said
 
Hey sorry for the late reply but iv been away for a few days, soo today I got the car on the road and when I took it for a drive I can hear the turbo spooling under boost but I do not hear the bov make a woosh and ideas?

Because its not vented into the atmosphere. Most of the info needed is listed above.

A bov does not need to be vented to the atmosphere for it to release pressure and make noise, please stop making this into a "how to vent your bov to make it stupid loud" topic.
He probably has a boost leak and can't build efficient boost for the valve to blow off, do you have a boost gauge rix? If you're seeing boost (0-15lbs or whatever you're running) then it should be blowing off or "whooshing" under boost. Any post that differs from WES_393 is simply leading you into an area of engine danger. He answered it flawlessly and if you have any questions left, read his post again.
 
Hey guys thanks so much for all your replys I have link v3 but I do not have an aftermarket boost gauge , my stock boost gauge needle goes all the way up when I punch it and I know the turbo is hitting boost because the car is really fast now I tightened all the hoses and connections when installing everything back I just can't figure out whats happening I used to have the bov with my old bad turbo operate proper. To me it seams this bov stays closed but I dunno.

Why don't you pull the recirculating hose off the BOV just to listen if it's opening? That seems like the easiest way to tell honestly. Just yank it off and cap or tape the connection on the intake that it connects to and drive it around the block to listen to it. Then just pop the hose back on when youre done. If its a greddy you should be able to hear it either way though... But it wouldn't hurt to try. And if it's not opening, just loosen the screw a little until it does.
 
My exhaust is loud but with the hose still on I did a pull and I could hear it make a wpbsbsb not a woosh sound but if step in it more it makes a bit better noise but it's still not good enough not like it used to be,

So you are on the stock boost gauge and it goes up all the way. This DOES NOT mean that you are making high boost. This means that you likely have a boost leak. The boost gauge is converted from airflow, not boost pressure. Are you on the stock boost controller still? Do a boost leak test.
 
With a MityVac and apply 15inHg to the port and tighten until it's closed (assuming you can see piston). Or just tighten it "some" so it releases with a consistent whoosh sound. When you hear "flutter" loosen it up a bit until there's no flutter
 
Loosen the adjustment screw a tad bit at a time until no more fluttering is heard. Currently, the blow off valves valve is rapidly opening and closing, while it should stay a consistent whoosh sound at anything over 1 psi instead
 
How do you adjust the greddy type-s when you are venting and your car idles at 7 inches of vacuum but it has 15 when cruising?

The bov will not effect vacuum in the intake manifold. The throttle plate valves or a vacuum leak are the only thing that will effect vacuum in the intake.
 
I bought a new boost controller solinoid the one that ecmtuning sells but I never installed it because I don't know know how to wire it up
