I have a 92 TSi just rolled over 80,000 miles. About 3 months ago I had a radiator hose bust and before I knew it car was starting to over heat. I couldn't tell anything went wrong at first but now i have this problem. Well I dont know if this has anything to do with the busted hose but now I am getting a lot of oil blow by, it is puddeling up bad on my valve cover. It almost looks like it is coming out of oil cap cover. My dad thinks that possibly when the car over heated that the head gasket blew, and in turn that is letting alot of oil blow by through. I replaced the PCV valve and the oil cap cover already because in a previous post I was told that would help solve the problem. Well its just as bad now if not worse and I don't know what to do, I am puzzled. Also I have new lash adjusters to be put in due to the classic mitsubishi/eagle ticking in the motor. Would bad lash adjusters have anything to do with this. Can anyone help me with this diagnosis? I am just so confused and ready to get this oil leak under control.

Oil ON the valve cover? Its either a cracked valve cover, or the oil cap is leaking. A head gasket wont puddle oil on top of the valve cover.

Oh BTW, buy the 3rd gen big bore lifters. No more ticking.

I just replaced the oil cap cover. Its a brand new one. How can you tell if valve cover is leaking. And yea its puddeling up bad.

Did you replace the PCV with an OEM valve or a Carquest/Autozone/etc. valve? The non-OEM ones don't seal and can be even worse of a leak than the one you replaced. If the new PCV is leaking, you will boost your crankcase which can cause the oil cap seal to leak and the dipstick tube to pop out.

If you think your overheating episode caused excess blowby, you can check this easily with a compression test.

If you suspect a cracked valve cover, pull the spark plug cover and all the plug wires (noting where they go) and clean up the cover. Put the plug wires back on and run the car. Pull the plug wires and see if you can find the leak. You may have to try a couple of times and maybe take it for a spin. But if your oil cap seal is the only leak, I'd look into compression, PCV valve, and valve stem seals, all of which can cause you to overpressurize the crankcase.

And the other guy pointed out that you need to change the oil cap seal (o-ring...sort of). If you got a *new* cap, it probably came with one, but if you got it from a junkyard, it might be as bad or worse than the old one.
