Hello friends !

First of all, I own a 95 Eclipse GS-T for about 1 year. Last week I needed to read my ECU via Software (for the first time...), but I got no readings at all.

Then, I got a friend's ECU and the software just read it OK !

My question is: My car works fine, but I get no readings from my ECU. Should I replace it for a "readable one" ? I'm planning to open it and see if there's some burnt stuff, etc...

Also, which are the consequences of driving with a ECU like this ?

Thanks !!!!!

You have eprom but is it socketed? Some ecu's can be read and some can't. It doesn't make it a bad ecu. Your just not able to read it that's all.

abosolutely right, you have 3 types of ecu's,you have e prom and non e prom, then you have the 98-99 flashable ecu's,if the car runs with no problems then just keep it the way you have it.dont spend money changing parts that dont need changing.use that money to get other things.if you are gonna spend any money on ecu's...dont,if anything get a safc and tune it that way until you can get the money for a good stand alone (aem or v-pro)....good luck!

If it were me, I'd go to a trusted mechanic and see if he can read the computer. I had a 95 Talon that nobody could read from, and a short while later, the car would randomly cut out entirely as in all gauges shut down, engine shut down, etc. Finally I went to a junk yard and found me another ECU and everything work out perfect. I'd just watch out for a bad ECU.
