Ok I want to remove that thing that is sandwitched between my oil filter and the filter housing. Here are my reasons behind it:

1) I have a remote filter relocation kit so I can move the filter away from there
2) I have a large air to oil cooler run in line with my oil filter relocation kit
3) My oil lines are really close to my down pipe.

So I want to know if I can just take that water to oil cooler off and just bolt the filter relocation kit adaptor to where the water cooling section was.... than just block off the water lines or loop them what ever needs to be done... I just really feel that the oil lines are too close to the DP and I can see my oil cooler is leaking a little anyway so it might be a great time to get rid of it... PLEASE HELP I want to get rid of it as fast as possible if I can... Like tomorrow if possible.

Thanks a Million guys!!

BTW I have a 91 TSI

here i was thinking about doing that on my old talon a while back here is some helpful info from buck. Alot having to do with the cold weather here in colorado being a factor.

project94tsi: Im pretty set on just doing a oil filter relocation kit and putting an oil cooler in the return line from the filter, then just cap off the coolent lines.

Buck: Once & for all - Let's beat this sumbitch to DEATH - Please think about canning the Water Cooler & just going with the Shorter Oil Filter Bolt - Then mounting your adapter directly to the OFH - That way you pick up more clearance from the heat of the Turbo & Downpipe area AND delete an extra gasket/potential failure point AND it's also just kinda tacky have an orphaned Water Cooler just sitting there...

BUT - There are several styles of OFH's out there - One of them is dead simple = Oil in Filter = Oil out Filter to Motor - no ports, etc... YOU DON"T WANT A LOW OIL TEMP VALVE IN THAT CIRCUIT! (the Oil Pressure Relief Valve would lift & dump into Oil Pan (I think) until the Motor locked up)- I personally would definitely WANT a Low Oil Temp Cooler Cutoff Valve in Colorado - In the Circuit you propose check your OFH to be sure that Oil would GET TO THE ENGINE SOMEHOW while your Oil is Cold because SOME of these Adapters have Low Oil Temp valves in them (IMO that Adapter was meant for Oil Coolers more than Oil Filters) so beware of that - others have the Valve seperately - Ideally your Oil Filter would NOT be isolated by the Low Oil Temp Cooler Cutoff Valve that was meant only for the Oil Cooler circuit.

THE 90 OFH HAS Low Oil Temp Valved Ports for the Cooler & with the Oil Filter Relo Kit you could have a SEPERATE circuit off the Adapter for the Oil Filter.

OR - if you don't have a 90 OFH you could use an Adapter WITH an Aftermarket Low Oil Temp Valve for the Oil Cooler Circuit & your unvalved OFH Ports for your Oil Filter Relo KIT (if your stock OFH has the ports like my 91 OFH) Your Oil will flow to motor via the unvalved Ports just like mine does...

that is helpful but where can I get this shorter "bolt" for the oil filter you are talking about

Im not sure i ended up finding a 90 filter housing and cooler, you could probably cut it down and re-tap the thread so there are no sharp edges or burrs, im not sure tho, you could pm buck and see what he says he would know alot more about this subject then me, good luck
