Hi everyone,

I would like to talk about my car. I bought it last monday with a boost leak and a broken lug off the front driver side. It has 126,000 miles and is the 7 bolt. And I have ordered some new parts including: forced performance manifold, punishment racing front mount intercooler with greddy type s bov, and new radiator hose kit. And my turbo is also winding like a supercharger. I don't know what the problem is. I also want to max out the 14b before i upgrade my turbo. And here is the list that i have made to max it out.
Mods:
FP Race Manifold
Punishment Racing Intercooler
Greddy Type s BOV
Silicone radiator hose kit
NGK B6 plugs
Magnecor 8.5 spark plug wires
Dejon Single Mechanical Boost controller
Walbro 190 fuel pump
Autometer Sport comp boost gauge
ACT 2600 Clutch with flywheel
Dejon Intake pipe with K&N filter
1g Ported o2 Housing
Injectors?????????

And i know if i look at the upgrade path its right there I want to get a second opinion. Thanks for your time. Any other suggestions are also welcome.
Derek

Anyone else? I have already looked at that i just want to makes sure all my parts are good to go. And could a boost leak make the turbo whine like i mentioned earlier? Im worried that its my actual turbo. Does anyone know?

Remove the intake from the inlet on the turbo and check for shaft play, if theres excessive amounts it's time for a rebuild.

I'm curious as to the status of all the maintenance, have you replaced the timing belt and water pump? I always do that first when I get my hands on a dsm.

After that's completed you may want to get a logger, there's alot of options and they are cheap.

Before modifying anything I would fix all the boost leaks you have.Chances are your throttle body shaft seals are leaking.I wouldnt think it would make your turbo whine though.Check the shaft play on it and go from there.PS.......Have you rebuild your clutch pedal assembly?
Otherwise you might have some engaging/disengaging issues after you install your ACT.

Yep timing belt and water pump would have been the first on my list as well..

You could have a giant boost leak causing the turbo to whine, but normally when a turbo whines it's on it's way out..Stnadard td05 turbo rebuild are pretty cheap even if you have Justin do it..I'm not going to post his price, but I can tell you it is pretty damm cheap..

If you have shaft play on the turbo I'd upgrade to a 16g now instead of spending money on another 14b. You seem to want to upgrade it, but your fuel pump wont allow for much more than the 16g will support power wise.

I'd go with 750 injectors as they are easy to find on the classifieds and they are cheap plus give you room to upgrade to a slightly larger turbo in the future.

You need something to tune with so I'd go ECM-Link V3, you also don't have enough air flow on the 1g maf to do much of anything and a 2g maf isn't bad but I personally would go speed density so you get faster spool and you could even vent if you wanted to.

You don't need to if you have ECM-Link logging but I don't recommend going that route. But you need a WIDEBAND to watch your AFRs to make sure you aren't running rich or lean. AEM EUGO or the LC-1 are great choices, the LC-1 I think it is works with link.

The 2600 is overkill by the way, it would hold up longer but a 2100 and the 2600's pressure plate should be enough for a realistic power range. The upside to a 2600 is lots and lots of launches before you will have slippage.

A cheap but effective upgrade would be a 2g throttle body elbow.

I can't really think of anything else besides fix anything that is currently wrong with it first.

Do all of the required maintenance first.Make sure everything is up to par.
You have a lot of nice parts there but they won't perform as well as they can without a good downpipe and exhaust. Check the timing belt for sure.
Good Luck

Greg

I forgot to add it has a new timing belt, water pump, and oil pump.

I have an apexi n1 downpipe and full exhaust

And there is no shaft play at all.

Each individual snail makes it's own unique sound. There may be nothing wrong with yours. If I were you, I'd save my money for now. Think: Ball joints, CV joints, clutch, engine mounts, seals, VC gasket, injector seals, struts, TIRES, is the ECU rebuilt? Then, you need to think about all the parts that you haven't broken yet, but will before you get all of your upgrades done. I'd wait, and hold-out for a decent low-mileage (or a built) long-block to work on on the side. Or start collecting parts to build your own. In your neck of the woods they should be easy to come by. Bolt-up your exhaust, and start fixing the little shit. Get to know some local members around here. There are tons of Tuners members who live around you. Start pm-ing people and get to know who has spare time to help you out. I swear, at least half of the members of this site live within 150 miles of you.

BTW: Skip looking for a new 14b, start looking for a small 16g. There's no reason for the middle-man. It's a straight bolt-on.

I had the same noise on my evo. Turns out the actuator on the wastegate was broken which would cause it to whine at full boost. I never really figured out how it made that noise but something to look into. :)

Okay i will look into that thanks! and it was inspected by a mitsubishi dealer before i bought it and the ball joints and everything like that. I mean the car has a great shell just the leak i believe. and hope!:thumb:

Mine was whining last time I drive it..I pulled the turbo replace alot of hoses and clamps, and put it back on..It whines kinda on the way home..So I'm thinking leak cause there was no shaft play..Or it could be the wg..Good thing I have an extra wg Just in case..
