Hello all,

I have recently found a 91 Talon TSI AWD that has 63k miles on it with some engine upgrades. The guy that built the engine stated that he was wanting to slap an E85 tune on this thing and was wondering if the build would benefit from this. I will post a picture of all of the upgrades and mods done below. Also, I am wondering if I should add anything to really optimize WHP. I am pretty new to the DSM scene but I'm a fast learner. Any advice is appreciated and thanks for the help in advance.

I converted my 1990 Talon to E85 last year and would recommend
1.) (if not already done) replacing fuel lines with alcohol safe lines. My old braided SS lines would sweat the alcohol and stink up my garage.
2.) Alcohol safe fuel filter
3.)

I converted my 1990 Talon to E85 last year and have a few recommendations:
1.) Replace fuel lines (if not already) to PTFE as the alcohol weeps thru the normal SS braided. Also would go to a -8Feed to future proof need 20% more E85 than pump 93.
2.) Also replace the submersible fuel line (if have one) connected to your pump.
3.) The 450 pump comes in E85 safe and non-E85 safe. They are pretty cheap nowadays so replacing for piece of mind as option.
4.) Highly recommend the Motion Raceworks Flex Fuel sensor adapter although cheaper options out there.
5.) Need the flex fuel harness kit from ECM LINK
6.) ECM link has cool E85 functionality allowing you 2 MAPS and adjusts btw each using the sensor.

Can post my parts list if interested.

would be super interested in the power change if you do the swap, your car is built very similar to mine, besides that I'm a 2.4l

If you just got the car, I'd say enjoy it for a while before over complicating things. Learn the platform on here, do some research. Idk much about e85 but sounds like theres a lot of people willing to help.

My project took 15 years and $40,000 with so many learning curves and mistakes and things that didn't need to be done (whole car was stripped and rebuilt). When I could have spent $5000 and had a fun working and driving car right away. I'm just now reaping the benefits LOL. Extreme case but my .02. Enjoy it and have fun for a bit. Get familiar with this website, check out other peoples builds, learn the common mods, check out the good vendors for parts, lots of good free lancers making awesome parts on here too, theres guys on here that can remote tune, rebuild your turbo, you name it.

Cheers

Thanks for the helpful info! I'll start doing some research into these things and see if I can get something rolling with my current budget. I'm currently searching for an oil leak on the darned thing so that has to be resolved first before future mods can be done. I was hoping to end up somewhere in the 600hp when I bring it to the dino eventually. Do you think it would be worth having someone remote tune it to make it more drivable, I hear it's cheaper potentially? it's running pretty lean right now do to the upgrades.
If you don't mind, i would be interested in your parts list. Could help me learn more about these mods.

Thanks for the advice! I would rather not have to spend 40k on this beaute if i don't have to haha so any additional advice would be great. Im not too sure about having someone remote tune this thing but i guess i don't know a whole lot about it. Wouldn't bringing it to a dino tuner be better? or is that more for people that want to REALLY optimize for racing purposes?

I only spent that much cuz I rebuilt the whole car basically and it didn't need it haha. Point is it ain't broke don't fix it. I should have just dropped a motor and tranny in the car in hindsight and actually enjoyed it. And built it in sections over time.

If the car runs good now I'd try and keep it that way so you can enjoy it. Rather than it turning into a never ending project like mine. That I never got to enjoy for 12 years till now.

I can't speak from experience with remote tuning, vs dyno tuning. But from my little experience tuning my own car with ecmlink, I would say the knowledge of the tuner is more important as well as the car being mechanically sound than the location it is tuned.

And man if i could spend that 40k again you beat believe it would have been way different 🤣
