Ok i got a first gen turbo.. and it idles fine but i was driving home from work last night and it started slowly slowing down... i limped it into a parking lot. When i got out it was idling decent for what just happened there is some noise and my manifold is RED hot. I went to start it and it started right up but would not rev past 1200 rpms... im thinking either fuel or exaust. fuel is kinda ruled out with it starting right away. but at the same time why would exaust just go like that any help or ideas or opinions would be most appreciated.

You are on the right track, yes, the fuel pump will cause the manifold to get cherry red hot. But, so would restricted injectors. What are your mods....

if its running lean, it will get real hot too. Check for boost leaks, maybe you popped off a intercooler hose.

I'd say intercooler pipe also. Since it won't go past 1200 rpms. Is there black smoke from the exhaust?

I would also check timing marks for good measure. If you jumped a tooth it would definitely cause the car to not have power, as well as make the manifold red hot.

also if your running a cat it may be partially plugged. the cat on my 1g is plugged and i get some high egts

I have no mods or loggers for this car... Im going outside to cut the cat off right now ill keep you guys posted

I would check for boost leaks first, or the ignition timing, but it sounds like your out cutting the cat out all ready.

Hopefully this video loads.... I went to cut the cat out it doesnt have one... I know i unplugged the the wastegate to intercooler vacuum hose and nothing happened.. I plugged that one back in and i unplugged the pcv hose and it instantly shot up to 2500 rpms and blew an A S S load of white smoke out the tail pipe any help would be awesome

Did you try flashing the ECU? Unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in. Sounds like you aren't firing on all cylinders, which is what was happening to my car. I flashed the ECU and it fired right up on all four. I agree on the fuel though...check your fuel pump for any leaks, again same problem i had.

ok the car has no cat on it and im still at a lost i have been told everything from fuel pump to injectors to an exaust manifold gasket. I have also been told that it could be the turbo I am at a lost and i dont really wanna rebuild it with not even knowing what is wrong. by the way where the hell is the ecu located ### ill try that.

so i went out to start my car today fired up then spurted out.... i started it up again ran fine idle with out any noise, i gave it some gas and it reved up to like 2000 started making a lil noise, then i revved it up to like 3 grand and the noise stayed the same still will not rev past three grand yet any other ideas???
