Heating problems???

I'm curious to find out if having the temperature gauge reading very low is normal. It happens when i drive in the highway and is cold out...the temperature gauge (stock one) reads way low...i'm talking about like if the needle was dead. But when i cruise around the city it starts climbing up slowwly. I got no heating problems...just that my car doesn't blow hot air as fast..takes a long time to blow hot air. Thanks!

I would say shot thermostat, always staying open. That would be why its so damn cool on the highway check it out!

yeah may be a shot thermostat like previously stated...its not that hard to diagnose...take the thermostat off...the valve is heat activated...if it is already completely open when you take it off then its gone bad...if not then do this simple test...

place the thermostat in pan/bowl (completely submerged), start to heat the water (stove top) and have a thermometer placed in the bowl/pan...watch it carefully, the valve should open completely around 200 degrees...thats what a good thermostat will do...anything diff and you may want to replace it...

also depengin or miles and what not you might want to replace it anyway, just to make sure your parts are new and what not...

Running your engine that cold will increase wear on your engine and decrease gas mileage. An OEM replacement costs less than a tank of gas and will save you that much in a couple months. If you haven't replaced it recently you might as well.

All 3 posts above are correct. You can replace it for under 6 bucks from autozone ( i think i paid 4.99+tax). Your car will actually run better once the ECU sees your motor is up to temp also, so you''ve got no reason to not fix it tomorrow...DO IT !!!!!
