Well I have been brain storming a couple of ideas for heat shields for the exhaust manifold but all of them in my head are rather unapealing. first I thought aluminum but looks to ugly(shape wise) will hold up though and reduce heat soak. then I thought just to put a thermal wrap n it and call it a day but I think that looks to sloppy. then I thought way about fiberglass good insulator, moldable, look clean, but would not stand up to the heat. my ? then is there anyway to make fiberglass less likly to burn by using an additive to the resin or a different resin all together? inturn making the fiberglass Fire resistant.

thanks any info would be great

(and no I dont have a stock heat shield that I can use or want to use)

What about some kind of ceramic coating? I'm not sure how it works exactly or what's involved but some headers for N/A cars come with it coated on the inside.

I just got mine ceramic coated from Jet-Hot. I think it looks pretty good.

As for aluminum, if you take your time and polish it up real nice it looks exactly like chrome.. Here is a perfect example of one that JM Fabrications makes

hmmm.........I need help with a template. I have some alluminum and a welder, what are dimensions of some thing like that? Looks pretty cut and square alluminum can with no trick bends or welds.

Does any one know if slow boys manifold has bolts holes for a heat shield?

You would definately need to have access to a sheet metal break in order to make those corners straight and crisp.

There are not any additives that you add BUT actual high temp resins if you search composite stores online. Maybe go into one of the composite forums and ask around. I would still think metal to be the best option as even over time fiberglass will still break down due to the heat and cooling effects.
The are resins with operating temps of 500 degrees and better. Anyhow, I do not ever need such high temp resins myself so I do not know exactly where to buy them. Try www.fiberglast.com first and go from there.

those look great :thumb: ...ive been lookin for a place that sold something like this......guess i gotta drill a hole for my egt gauge tho........

all great ideas but the heat I want to control is all from the hot side of the turbo, o2 housing and dp. just think if you could mold something around them to keep more heat away from your oil filter, intercooler pipes, and radiator. it would provide all the heat protection that you could ask for.

thanks for all the input theboogieman I will look there first

keep you posted

Ummm, if I remember correctly, there are stock heatshields in those areas just for that specific purpose. I could have sworn, since I remember cutting my hand trying to take those suckers off to put in my new 3" O2 housing and DP.

How about carbon fiber yO?! :D
