On a 4g63 if you take the shield thats over the headers off, will it help dissipate heat any better?? :dsm:

1. No 's' on header.

2. It is better to keep the heat in the system before the turbo. More energy to spin the turbine.

and its not a "header" its an exhaust manifold. "headers are of the seperated tubeular(sp?) type.

It tends to melt fans, but many do it and get away with it (try a search for "melted fan").

A proper heat shield will be polished to a mirror on the underside -reflecting heat back toward the manifold- and be flat black on the outside -minimizing heat transmission. But I've yet to see it done.

Another purpose for the head shield is to hold heat in not let it out faster. Your manifold is cast and when it heats up and cools too quickly it cracks. The heat shield will hold heat in longer and when your car is turned off it lets it cool slower to help stop cracking.

Actually flat black on the outside would maximize heat transfer from the heat shield itself towards the atmo. This would help if you had trouble melting holes in the shield.

All of them are exhaust manifolds. Header is slang.
