I recently bought a header for my 99 Eclipse and I was looking at my header today and where did the header and the downpipe meet seems to be leaking exhaust fumes and I was wondering what would be the best way to fix this problem.

Another question, is that as soon as I start the car to check for the exhaust leak the header was really hot and I was wondering what is the gain if were to wrap the header with thermal tape.

New gasket and some high temp silicone. The gain for heat tape would be lower temps under hood, I have the tape on the headers on my camaro it saves my starter motor.

Yes ^ , and look into other ways to lower heat temps if you really need to because I've heard a lot of times the heat wrap melts and sticks to the headers.

I've never, ever heard of that happening - the only remotely similar thing I've heard is that it traps moisture and causes rust. Header wrap is a great way to to retain exhaust gas heat, and prevent damage from radiant heat. Just install it properly with stainless steel ties and silicone spray.

The header that I have is the header and the downpipe meet, is the one where the downpipe is oval and it fits over the header.

Yes i highly suggest wrapping the headers because on my talon it was burning the paint on the hood and if you have a carbon fiber hood the headers will melt right through.

To the Original poster:

1)where did you buy your header from

2)The oval type connections will always leak

3) I would suggest having an exhaust shop either make a flange for it on both ends, or just weld it shut so that it becomes 4-1 header.

I don't know of anyone who has had luck with the oval type header connections, but if anyone does please fill us in.

Do you think if I bought some exhaust tape and wrap around would that would work?

I bought the header on ebay and when I open the box realized it was the oval type, I was like dam but what could I do.
