Niagara,
I'm going to install my DC headers this week. I was wondering if I should reuse the heat shield, or would I be okay to go without? I was told that if you don't have the heat shield then you could melt your rad fans? Is that true, or is that only on turbo'd cars. Let me know if anyone has experienced anything like that, or whether or not you used your heat sheild with your headers. Thanks in advance:dsm:

You will be fine without the heat shields. The DC headers also don't have the bolt holes for the heat shield, so it won't even work without some fabrication.

Aside from that, I have never heard of a fan melting in a n/t without the heat shield. I have however, heard of the fans melting in some GS-T/X's, not all though. My brothers is without the shield, and his fans are fine.

Again, you will be fine. Show those headers off:thumb:

Great, thanks man. My original plan was to go without the heat shield, then someone told me it could melt my fans, so I was alittle skeptical. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

No problem. Again, you have nothing to worry about, every N/T with headers that I've seen has never had the heat shield on.

One thing to worry about, if it came with a downpipe, the bolts at the Catalytic Converter are usually the hardest ones to get off. If you have some liquid wrench or PB blaster, I would go outside right now and spray those bolts down alittle bit, and let it sit over night. Don't drive the car any until the bolts are off. When you go to work on the headers, I would spray those Cat bolts again, just to get it to penetrate as best as possible.

Just a little heads up :thumb: Goodluck. Any more questions and you know we're here.

Thanks again man. I did alot of reading and that got mentioned a few times. I'm going to go buy some of that PB blaster and let it sit like you said. Thanks for your help man, its greatly appriciated!

If your really worried about heat problems, there is always that heat wrap stuff that they sell to wrap exhaust headers and downpipes to contain the heat a little better.

I ran without a heatshield for over a year on my old gs and nothing ever melted. I even had a wire going under the header(not stupid close guys) for my A/F gauge and the loom never even flinched.
