head swap

so i am building a 6 bolt with a 2g head and i am also going to be building my 7 bolt that is coming out. i need to know if after i have my head machined for the bigger head studs would i be able to use that head on the 7 bolt with the 7 bolt studs or would i have to use a new head?

the headstuds are only used to hold down the head. There are two steel dowel sleeves that go into the block around two head studs. Those sleeves do the actual alignment between the head and block. you will see them on the block around the studs when you remove the head.

i knew that but i was wondering if it would do anything bad to the oil flow to the head. there was a guy on here that had a post about how there is an oil feed hole in one of the stud holes on the top right stud hole of the block. i would figure if anything it would make the flow better. i didnt believe that they would feed oil to the head like that but ill try and post the link here so you can check it out

I was running a 6bolt with a 2G head and had no issues with the engine. Now, I'm getting it redone and I fully plan on doing Bogussvo's mod to it. Now you are asking if you choose to put the 2G head back on to the 7bolt block, will it affect your oil pressure? From what I've read, it will only help. Hit him on a PM if you really want an answer. He is probably the most informed machinist I've seen on the forum in a while.

do you think running a built head on a stock bottom end would be a bad idea or should i throw the .040 over evo9 pistons it it?
