Regina,
Hey guys i just got my car started again today after all my coolent froze and blew my head gasket or cracked my head in this -50 degrees celcuis weather. It burns a little coolent now so im not sure if its the head gasket or the head it self. My buddy is selling his 90 tsi, for 500 bucks canadian, but the valve cover says Mitsubishi on it so i think it could be a JDM motor, we dont know because most of the motor is painted blue including the valve cover. He bought it at insuranse yard, it was a TL'd car. i was wondering if i buy the car, even if it is a jdm longblock or whatever would the head just swap right over to my car. Thanks for the info. here is the pic of the non damaged side of the car...the other side isnt even that bad.

If it is the same engine, then it should fit. All the JDM engines just have 'cyclone' written on them. Many people buy these JDM parts hoping for more power..

ya the only thing that resembles a JDM is the valve cover but it is painted blue, and it has the ECI multi on it, but the previous owner could have easily swapped the manifolds though. But the head will fit onto a usdm block, even if it is a JDM??

People mix and match heads and blocks all the time. Check the motor mounts, unless the engines differ (7-bolt / 6-bolt) then it should go right in. If they don't, then the motor mount might need a little trimming, but nothing you can't do yourself. Do some searcing on the forums and check out www.vfaq.com and you can find out more about the differences between 6 and 7 bolts. Good luck with the job.

EDIT: Here is the link to tell wheather it is a 6 or 7 bolt. http://vfaq.com/mods/early-late-engine.html

mine talon is a 6bolt and so is the Jdm motor, i just though that the jdm engines were longblocks and the stock motors were short blocks. so i was wondering if they would fit, but if u say they do then ill buy that car tommorow.

The term "longblock" means a complete engine with a head and a block. "Shortblock" means just the block by itself with no head. It has nothing to do with JDM.

Yes the JDM head will swap straight over to your USDM block with no problems.

Exactly. It should go in no problems. :thumb:

Actually a 2g turbo head can go on a 6bolt block, i am performing the swap on my car right now, you need to drill and tap the holes where the head studs go from 11mm to 12mm. I may be missing some other stuff but it works.
