I have another question for you guys.. I've been reading that the cylinder head rarely warps on these cars and the problem is more likely just the head gaskets. The compression in cylinder#3 is down to 70psi and it seems like that's pretty drastic. Could a head gasket leaking reduce compression that much or does that hint that it is a warped head? The car has overheated multiple times and I was thinking that even if the head doesn't normally warp the heat could have warped it. I also hear that Mitsubishi updated the head gasket because the older ones were having issues leaking. Do you think it could just be the head gasket? That would be a little more convenient.

Also what is the mb991654 head bolt extraction tool? Do I really need this to get the bolts off the head? Is there some equivalent I can find in a car parts place?

Thanks

If it has overheated multiple time's it probably has warped. It's aluminum, aluminum warps. First do a leak-down test. Then remove it and get it checked, fix your overheating problem and replace the HG while you are in there. You will not need that tool.

if you have low compression in just one cylinder, I would suspect either a warped/burnt valve or bad rings in that one cylinder.

IF you have low compresson on two ajoing cylinders, that would suggest a compression blown HG.

The 4g heads do warp often, mostly due to over heating, like any other alum cylindr head...

you need to check it for warp...

if it is warped, you will need to have it surfaced.

DO NOT let your head be belt surfaced!!

depending on what head gasket you decide to run, it should look like this or close to it..

since you have the head off you may want to do this oil mod...

Overheating certainly warps aluminum heads. A 10mm allen wrench socket from any parts store will work fine for removing head bolts.
