Well I am almost positive that my head is cracked and am getting it rebuilt. About how much should I be looking to spend and what else should I do while Im getting that done i.e. cams adjustable cam gears etc.

I am also how much should I look to pay to get my stock turbo rebuilt?

how do you know your head is cracked for sure...are you
1. burning/leaking coolant
2. does your engine heat up very fast/overheats
3. Do you blow white smoke (headgasket)

My 93 needed headwork because the studs to hold on the head were stripped.
i have 130,000 miles on mine and I did several things for preventative maintenance.
1. New Timing Belt (get the mitsubishi factory one)
2. New Water Pump (mitsubishi)
3. New Timing Belt tensioner (mitsubishi)
4. Upper head set (all gaskets for head and manifolds) (NAPA)
The head was completely rebuilt using all factory Mitsubishi valves, retainers, guides and springs. It is amazing. I cleaned out my injectors and most of the engine bay since it was in shambles while being worked on. Now my car runs A-1 and its reliable as my race/daily driver.
*****If you plan on doing this yourself it will take some time and probably have some other things to go wrong*** I just took mine for timing the belt and tourqing the bolts on so i wouldnt mess up the timing for the engine. The whole thing with parts and labor was around $1000 (including rebuilt and machined head). It is worth it to get it done right.
good luck to you man. :thumb:

Well the reason I think the head is cracked is because shes looses a hell of alot of oil. I leave drip stains everywhere. Theres more than one spot that is leaking Ill try to get pictures to show you, and theres another place where my friend who is a mechanic says "its pissing oil, most likely your head is cracked"

Where are the oil drips coming from? I would first suspect a loose bolt or bad gasket before a cracked head.

But you wanted to know the cost of rebuilding a head. I got a complete clean and disassemble, valve job with new seals, resurface, and reassemble for a hair over $200 out the door.

Well this isnt a picture of my actual engine bay, just one borrowed off of google. The blue circle is where there is some slight oil, not much. But the circle of red is where oil spattered everywhere after "it" happened.

It is the day that I was driving on the highway, cruising @ about 50 for about 15 min, then I decided to accelerate, when I go to accelerate the car just starts slowing down, I pulled into parking off the highway, and it shut off. There was no oil whatsoever. I got it back home several hours later by putting in 4 quarts of oil and it drove home fine. But leaked like a son of a gun.

I don't know that you should bother with the cam gears. In theory, they're a nice thing, but not many people really take advantage of them. You could spend a good deal of time getting them just right. Buschur actually recommended that I get rid of mine. His concern (as I understood it) was basically, that it's another place for something to slip, and that the gains don't come close to justifying the risk.

I would suggest finding a head for sale that has bent valves. Take that into the machine shop and let them do the work. I got a head from a local junkyard for about $30. Got new OEM valves, OEM guides, seals, retainers, springs, and a resurface along with a complete disassemble and cleaning for about $400.

Thanks for the last two replies, but now my mechanic friend is second guessing his diagnosis. In post #5 it shows where their is one slight oil leak, and another that is the main problem. Just curious what else it could be other than a cracked head.
