I haven't been able to drive car since last June when my engine blew. But now my wait is almost over. Picked up a junker engine loaded it with a Howell 2.0 performance bottom end kit 8.6 comp pistons{going turbo this summer}. I already had usual cold air intake, cat-back exhaust, and hi flow cat. While new engine was being added I had the head port and polished. I also added some small things new plugs and wires, ignition coil, and engine mounts. Next I want to build up the top end, I already have a set of AEM cam gears waiting to be installed. But what else will help? Like I said I want to run a turbo also plan on next year adding nos. I was thinking Crane #14 turbo cams. On Howells site they have Eaton PT Cruiser lifters/lash adjusters, would these help? A friend of mine suggested upgraded valve springs and valves. Do these increase performance? Also what is the difference with oversized valves? Any help is greatly appreciated. One last seperate question for those of you running turbo setups, Did you need a limited slip differential? The shop doing the work on my car is telling I will probably need one eventually. Thanks again.

The new stronger valvesprings are a good idea. i dont think they boost performance, but they are needed with turbo. and i think you will need an LSD, i have trouble with traction when im not turbo.

If your going turbo you diffinitely want stiffer springs. Exspecially if you had your head ported. Otherwise your turbo will open them for you. Its called valve float.

Thanks for the info. Did you replace yours already? Which valves are better? I was looking into to getting some Crower valve springs. Is it good to replace the valves too, or is it unecessary? Thanks again for any assistance.

If i remeber right crane springer are a tad bid stiffer than crower. If i were you id replace the valves to and maybe have a full radious grind done. I purchased both si and indy valves and my opinion of them is that they are both junk. They bost valves ive found for the 420a is from a guy on ebay. I was really amazed with those valves. I even had them spark tested and it was sparked white. White is the best they can be. Do a search on ebay for neon dohc. You will see the valves -itll be a picture of two valves with a purple background.

Thanks again for all who posted.

Jayden,
Is the seller of those valves "horsepower-wd"? Just want to be sure. If so for that price I'll definately pick them up. How long have you been running those valves? Also want to be sure they'll last. Just out of curiosity, have you run your car at a track yet or dynoed it? Your setup from your pfofile is similar to what my set up will be except, I'll be running a STAR stage II turbo kit, AEM cam gears, and a high stall torque converter{auto tranny}. Just one last question from my original post, Did you need a limited slip differential?

Thanks.

No i havent dynoed it yet. ive been running those valves for about a month I had several different valves and machine shop i took them to spark tested them and the other ones were a cheaper metal. I think these wont fatigue until like 900 Degrees or something like that. I didnt need limited slip. I want it but you dont need it. But im only running 5lbs of boost. When i get comfortable with that then ill turn it up and so on. I here retro fit lsd is pretty good.
Yeah horsepower-wd is the guy. remember there oversize so your gonna have to get a valve job done and get your seats reground
