My car is stock except intake and catback exhaust.

Well i got my headgasket and water pump replaced. The mechanic also replaced my Time belt. This was 4 days ago. When i took it for a ride, i heard something rubbing against something, so i got outta da car and looked in the hood. It turns out, the time belt was rubbing against the plastic housing. So when i moved the plastic housing to the side a little, the noise went away.

Next, The next day, i was going out in the car and i heard the rubbing sound. I didnt mind it since it was not a big issue and i was not giong out on a long trip. After about 6min of driving, i hear something snap and the steering wheel was stiff. I pulled over and opened the hood, and the fan belt was snapped off or it was like torn on one side and the rest just went out to the side.(those belts were replaced also)

I got the car towed to the mechanic and told him the problem, he put in a new belt for me. He said that something was not operating right in the rotation and It needed a special screw which he replaced for me.

Then, i get in my car and head for home. It was fine until i tried to pick up the speed and i smelt some rubber burnt smell. That happened after i pushed it to about 4k RPM. so i pulled over and looked at the hood. Everything seemed fine. Then i headed for home again, and i smelt it again so i pulled over again and check, it was as if it was coming from the belts. I went home slowly and parked the car.

Today, I replaced the radiator cap(from a junkyard off of a 94mitsu eclipse which has the same cap) and the coolant tanks cap.

I was reving up the engine tryin to see if itll smell like burnt rubber again, but that didnt happen. The funny thing is, after i looked in the hood for about 5min or so, i went back to the seat and the TEMP needle was pretty high up(about from half to higest, it was in between) then i shut of the engine and waited about few min, then turned it on, which was now normal.(my needle usually stays at the middle and goes up a little and comes back down back and forth)

Now, I dont know what is wrong, I replaced the waterpump, timing belt, and the headgasket. what can be wrong?

happened to me...replace your thermostat and you'll be fine!!! get one from mitsubishi dealer shouldnt be too much, in the mean time dont drive the car, you can overheat and cause damage you wouldnt want!
oh and if you want you can remove the timing belt cover, most guys do it...and it will stop it from rubbing if it ever does again, but be sure to tie your spark plug wires because they are close to the belt so they dont rub on em as well!!! hope it works out for you!! :thumb:
