Im in the process of removing my transfer case and trasmission in my car to put my new trans and transfer case, and clutch in because the tranny in the gsx now is scrap..

We have the 5 bolts off of the t case and my dad is wondering how to get it completely free? Are we missing something else that has to come off to free it up? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Use a little pry bar , it should come out nice and easy...Its the same idea as a cv joint , just easyer :hellyeah:

Once you get it started it will come right off and drop down on you, so be careful. It's like 40lbs or something so if your not ready for it then it might hurt.

40lbs? I can curl that thing with one hand, its like 15

It "should" slip right off, but mine sure didn't. There are two alignment pins and if either has any surface corrosion it'll bind. Mine was firmly anchored in the front as though there were another fastener, I had to gradually lever it free with the aide of a couple screwdrivers and a rubber hammer. The forward pin had some surface corrosion.

My dad is dead set on us having to take both axles off to get the trasmission and transfer case out WTF ??? idk why but he honestly doesnt believe the t case will come out with just the 5 bolts taken off and pryed off the trans...

That's all it should take to get it off. Like previously mentioned there are alignment dowels that might bind up a bit, but with a prybar and a little effort it will fall right off.

Mines had 6 bolts. Feel around its just above another bolt in the center you can't see it but you can feel it good luck

Pry bar between the t case and the transmission. Take you time and try it in diffrent spots as the out put shaft on the trans is rusted on to the splines of the input of the T case. Use a wire bush on the splines to clean them up real good and use alot of anti seize on the splines when you are ready to put it back together.

Yes both axles and the T case have to come out in order to get the trans out. Make sure you drain the trans fluid first.

Do both axles have to come off to get the transmission out too?? because after the t case comes out the trans is next because im putting a new trans and 23 spline t case in with a new clutch too

Yes both axles will need to be removed to remove the transmission. They do not have to be removed to remove the transfer case though.

Ok cool that was my question thanks guys i wanted to make sure they both didnt have to come out to get the t case out but figured they would have to, to get the transmission out... well off to go work on the bastard dsm! If anything else comes up ill be sure to let everyone know

Just to keep everyone updated i got both axles out...t case out... just about to drop the trans only have one more bolt to get... then tomorrow im going to do a cv and ball joint, and put the new clutch in and hopefully finish up tomorrow eveyrthing actually went pretty smooth no major headaches it was pretty straight forward
