having a hard time understanding this turbo..

Okay I'm new here, done some research but I can't find what I'm looking for? What is so great about the 14b turbo?

I read that its so much better than the t25 and all that, but I want to know is the power / potential of the turbo. I know its not no 16 or 20g.. basically I have a 14b on my car (purchased my 97gst with a 14b on it already) and I just wanted to know what's so "great" about it and if it would be enough to reach my 300whp goal..

They are just popular because they were the stock 1g turbo so they are cheap and easy to find and practically a bolt on turbo. It will not get you to 300HP but its a fun cheap upgrade from a T25.

Well since the 14b is a td05 turbine it is the same turbine wheel used in a 16g and 20g, so in a way it is a 16g or 20g same family. It's a very potent little turbo, and flows pretty well for its size. They can be had for cheap and rebuilt easy, its always my go to back up turbo. If you put a t25 at 14psi verse a 14b at 14psi the 14b will out shine the t25 anyday, will hold boost steadier and more efficient. A 300hp goal with a 14b is easily doable bro, just need the right supporting mods. Your best bet now is to get ecmlink or something to tune with and get alittle more fuel and air moving.

I would not say its easy, its going to require a lot of mods and race gas or E85 and your going to be pushing it to its limits. I wouldn't consider it a 300HP turbo and if you mange to get that out of it its not going to last long. Look at the dyno sheets of the people that made 300HP+ on a 14b

Good news is that if you have a 14b installed, a 16g is a direct bolt on swap. That could easily handle your 300 hp goal
