Last night I went out to retune my car. Got it running REALLY good but then started to smell oil and something hot. I'm thinking it was burning oil on the manifold.

Anyway the seal between the oil cooler and filter housing got broken and all the oil poored out.

When we pulled into the garage we heard a noise coming from the engine like it was starving for oil. Nothing unnormal for being that low on oil.

We replaced the seal, added oil and it fired right up and the noise went away. So my friend gets in the car and pulls out of his drive way and we notice the car has like NO BOOST.

The guage comes up off vac, and hits 0 and stays there. Car has no power and revs up and you hear a funny whooshing sound but no boost.

It feels just like the shaft in the turbo wasnt spinning so I got out and checked to see if it was spinning and or had shaft play. I can spin the turbo by hand and its got no unnormal shaft play.

Also I have a magnetic oil drain plug and there is no metal shavings or chunks stuck on it.

Not sure what to check. I'm totally lost.

Right until the oil loss it was boosting fine. Hell it boosted fine with the issues cough. I totally thought the turbo was seized from oil starvation but like I said it dont seem to be.

I already figured it out. Was what I orignally thought it was. Turbo isn't spinning. Thrust bearing is sticky.

Does anyone know a dealer who sells just the thurst bearings for a Big16G turbo? I have a shop local that used to sell and rebuild turbo's that said they would fix it cheap if I track down the needed thrust bearings.

Thanks.

Yep thats what a was looking for.. Hrmm $100 bucks.

Might just drive the car with it the way it is and buy a new turbo in the spring. Only need the car for a couple more weeks before I put it up for the winter. Turbo does spin with a lite load but not enough to boost but as long as I dont boost, it drives normal.

Anyway thanks.
