has anyone ever had title problems?

im buy a 98 gst from a friend of mine the car is from either north or south carolina and the guy signed his name wrong on the title and the alabama dmv says he has to resign it according to the guy who has the car now.. anyone ever had this problem an any assistance would be awesome! thanks

i had something kinda like that. he signed with his nickname tom instead of thomas. i ended up fighting with new york for a month or two before they finally accepted it.

ask if a notarized letter from your friend about the sale will satisfy the state

even tho my friend isnt the one who went an got the car from north or south carolina?? he says it can be signed over into my name the way it is but i find that hard to believe and the guy signed his name the way the title say its his last name then first name so thats how he signed the back of the title for the sale but alabama dmv says its got to be first name then last name... i dunno what to do about this personaly ive never been in this type of sittuation.....

I am not mistaken. The proper procedure is to have draw a single line through the mistake. Initial, and resign it correctly. I was looking at the title laws a few days ago to figure out what to do with a 1g that was just left at my garage. But I cannot find the link now for the life of me.

I have wrote my own bill of sales for cars before. The DMV just wants to CYA.

Had 2 title issues. One I had to mail back to the previous owner to have corrected, the other I had to get a notarized letter.

Have dmv show u were to get it signed rite... Wait a couple days look on front of title for the onwers printed name then sign his name to it like it is suppose to be make u a bill of sale sign his name the same way on it then take it n ther... If they asks he met u and signed it rite... Easy fix
