I was on here awhile back but been out of state. But I'm back and finally have time to mess with the car. I have looked to see if anyone else has had this problem, but couldn't find anything.

1st) When the car is off I can put it into all gears, but when I turn the car on it will not go into gear.

2nd) If the car is turned off (as in if I have the key in my pocket) and put it in reverse everything comes on such as radio and dash other gauges.

3rd) When I start the car and let it idle the reverse lights come on and won't go off.

4th) On my boost gauge when the car idles it sucks down -10 to -15 psi and when I rev it up it goes to -25 to -30.

Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks everyone for looking.

#1 #2 # 3 are electrical and probably number two you have some serious wire tracing. I hope your ECU is not fried. As for your boost gauge giving you bizarre results i think its hooked up backwards im assuming its electronic switch the black and red wires

Stock cams should pull around 18-19 in.HG at idle. Vacuum is pressured in in.HG not -psi FYI. When you rev the car the gauge should get close to 0 and then get a high reading around 25-30in.HG was the motor slows down when you let off the throttle. This is normal operation. Check the Vac line that goes to the gauge for kinks or cracked sections, this would cause erratic behavior. You could also check for intake manifold leaks, cam timing, and compression check to determine low vac at idle. And you might want to check the gauge out first to make sure thats not the issue before chasing down other options.

Thanks a lot. I've been working on it all day. I checked the gauge and its fine. Now I'm going to check the lines. I have an AEM boost gauge in it. Long story short the car used to run perfect but I bought it from my cousin and after he worked on it himself it runs like sh**. He advanced the timing 12 degrees and other BS stuff. It used to idle a little below 0 and hit 16 on the go. But now it just keeps sucking down as if the turbo isn't working. But the wheel is spinning but it doesn't even whistle now. But thanks for the info I'm going to trace every line and check. And hopefully get one of these problems out of the way

I'm just curious would it be easier to just pull motor tranny interior and just go from ground up?

1st) When the car is off I can put it into all gears, but when I turn the car on it will not go into gear.

You may have an issue with the clutch not disengaging. If you push the clutch paddle in and try to crank the car over while its in 1st gear and the car moves forward then your clutch is not disengaging. You will need to check fluid level, possibly bleed the system of air and maybe some new parts. Recently there have been several threads on clutch adjustment issues, you should be able to find one fairly easy.

2nd) If the car is turned off (as in if I have the key in my pocket) and put it in reverse everything comes on such as radio and dash other gauges.

3rd) When I start the car and let it idle the reverse lights come on and won't go off.

Is there any chance that your reverse light are on all the times even with the car off?
Sounds like you have a short in the power wire going from the reverse switch to the lights. Reverse light gets its power from the ignition switch, then that runs through the reverse light switch to the lights themselves. If you had bridged power wire (I believe red with black stripe) between the reverse lights and the reverse switch then as you put it in reverse that would connect the power to the ignition switch which is why your radio and dash lights come on. Unplug the reverse light switch on top of the tranny and see if the radio and dash lights still turn on when you put it in reverse with ignition off. If the lights don't come on then that's your problem. Also with the reverse light switch unplugged, when you turn the ignition to ON position and the reverse lights come on then that would also indicate to the bridged wire problem. In this situation I would imagine that the revere lights would be on all the time so check for that as well.

4th) On my boost gauge when the car idles it sucks down -10 to -15 psi and when I rev it up it goes to -25 to -30.

If your boost gauge is hooked up properly and works as it should then I would check to make sure that your timing marks all line up. If a timing belt skips a tooth is could cause different vacuum readings. Also do a boost leak test to make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks.

You have been extremely helpful. And yes when in gear and trying to start it does the jump thing. And Thank you thank you thank you. And he changed the clutch right before I bought it. And that's why he sold it cause after he did it it wouldn't go in gear. Thanks so much. :rocks::D:applause:
