Hey, i gotta 98 non turbo 2.0.(bummer i know).. anyway im trying to replace the waterpump and i've taken off the engine brackets, tensioner pully and several other stuff now i'm workin on the timing belt and timing belt cover to get to the waterpump. i have to get the flywheel off now and can't. I took out the center bolt but it won't come off. i've been trying to use a gear puller but its won't budge. the car's got like 180,000 plus miles so i'm thinking it may be cold welded on. anything i'm missing or can do. thanks a lot.

haha yea, sorry i guess thats not the flywheel:ohdamn: i still can't get it off though LOL

Its more than likely been removed before to change the timing belt but either way its probably slightly rusted on. If you have a dead blow hammer you can lightly hit the center of the pulley and it may help free it up. but be careful, the stock pulley is easy to chip or break near the outer lip. What type of puller are you using?

i don't think its been removed before, its really rusted on there, the previous owner didn't do a whole ton of maitnence.... I'm using a gear puller. first tried a bigger one the grab the whole thing then got a smaller one to lock onto the inside part but neither really seem to help... the outside is a tiny bit chipped already.... would a harmonic balance puller do the job better?

I'm starting to confuse myself. sorry if i sounds not completely knowledgeable.... i think its the crankshaft pully.... its basially to wheels. the inside one is for the powersteering belt and the outside one for the alternator belt... its just below the waterpump to the left. I'm trying to get it off so that i can get the timing belt cover off cause its wedging it in there so i can't get it off

yea when i took mine off it was stuck pretty good with only 130,000 on the car. my setup has since changed but def try some type of spray lube and if you absolutely cant get it off and all else fails, you can apply heat to the center. but as i said before be extremely careful not to break the pulley.

Yeah, that the harmonic damper.

Wack it with a rubber mallet and it should come loose. A rubber mallet isn't going to hurt anything either.
Lol, well this will be fun Paul :p;

Guys please be aware of the forum you are posting in (of course he even stated he had a 420a :ohdamn:)

OP, do NOT wack it with a mallet! It will do nothing but frustrate you. IF you had a 4g63 engine, THEN you could wack it with a mallet (ok, fun done).

You need the proper puller. Its the Chrysler puller. This has been covered just so many times (actually within the last week and a half) that it gets a little furstrating. I need you to do a little leg work yourseld on this. Do a quick search in this forum and you will find out what tool you need. You will also find out that you can generally rent them from Autozone or some place like that.

Go to advanced auto or orileis and rent a cryslter harmonic balancer removal tool. Once you get it throw some ball bearings in the whole (youll know what im talking about when you get it.) then put the push rod in on top of that. It will come right off.

hey, i ended up buying a smaller gear puller and was able to get it off with a lil bit of work. sorry, i did a search but had trouble finding what i was looking for, next time i'll look for a bit longer..... After i got it off and replaced the waterpump it isn't running very well, its sputtering when it idles, i think the timing belt might be off, i'll keep looking at the forums for more help though before starting a new thread though... thanks a lot for the help guys.

go to napa auto parts and get a cam clamp or a cam gear holder, and clamp them gears down... if you dont they like to jump a tooth when you pull the pin on the tensioner.
