Hard piping kit for Stock side mount??

i just searched for about an hour and a half and came up with nothing on this site for options for the stock sidemount intercooler.
i just bought a 2g gsx that is 100% stock
and it deffinately has a boost leak. i built the leak tester, and tried to check it sunday afternoon, but my air compresser decided to not comply.
even if i find the leak, not sure if i can just patch it like you would a tire with a rubber repair kit or what...

seems like a cheap but proven hardpipes kit for the stock intercooler would just save me the hassle, and maybe give me the option to run water meth injection kit i have laying around so i can get away with running 87 octane... course thats a different discussion.

anyways, it seems that a lof of people approve of the VRSF intercooler setup, and for the price i gotta say seems like a no brainer. I really wasnt looking to go crazy with the car right now as i need to work out the bugs before i start upgrading her. overall plans are probably the EvoIII 16G unless there is something better /similar cheaper. havent researched 2G's for years, but i recall thats what i would have done in the past...

so basicaly, is there a cheap hardpipe kit that will eliminate my boost leak, or would it be worth the extra to just go with a front mount seeing that i will probably upgrade the turbo later - and im guessing the side mount is too small for any upgrade in boost

I don't think that the sidemount will be too small for additional boost or anything like that. Sure, you won't be able to run 20psi in 90+ degree weather all day, but it should be alright for a little extra something, especially with the meth injection. As for options, here you go:

Select "Sidemount IC and pipes". You will find options for piping that will allow you to keep the sidemount and run hard piping. There are also piping kits on Ebay as well. I am also in the same dilemma as well. I have factory hoses and want to upgrade. I might just wait until I need a front mount and do it all then, though. Before buying anything, you should really complete the boost leak test. Use a bicycle pump if you have to.

Punishment Racing sells a Greddy pipe kit. They also have a very nice and inexpensive front mount kit that's worth checking out.

I run pipes from roadracengineering.com and I've been very happy with them. The two J-pipes I've gotten are not the same story but you can't have everything all the time. That said their UICP and lower piping kit for a 16g work together perfectly to easily install a Supra SMIC which I have also been incredibly happy with. By the time you're done with that though you can just about buy a budget FMIC as long as you know what turbo setup you'll be going with.

Besides that though there are numerous places for terrible boost leaks that have nothing to do with the stock soft piping. Honestly I've seen a lot of cars with boost leaks all over the place and very few that leaked from the stock piping itself.

Thanks for that information-I am in the process of resolving some boost leaks and figured that the first place would be the soft stock hoses. I'm glad to know that that is one thing that I can wait to buy if needed.

I think the major problem with the soft intercooler piping is that it expands under boost. As the piping expands and fill with pressure, you get a lag feeling when you first hit boost.

I've never had any problem with major leaks from my piping, it's all factory with 171k on it. I would start by doing a boost leak test and go from there, I wouldn't buy any piping until your sure you need it, no sense in buying something if your not sure will fix your problem.

These guys are right though, I doubt hard pipes will make your leaks vanish and everyone loves a FMIC so spend wisely.

Spending close to 200 for stock SMIC hard pipes is a waste when you can get a whole FMIC kit for a little over 300.

Go with the Supra SMIC if you're going the SMIC route. It will perform as well or better than all the other SMICs on the market for less money and will sell like a hotcake when you're done with it. My setup including new clamps and some strap cost me less than $80 excluding the hardpipes that you would purchase anyways with any other setup.

My GS-T already had the Dejon uicp & 1g bov on it & the K&N fipk & that was it. Oh & a cheesy boost gauge other than that it was all stock.Got the Dejon licp new off E-bay for $25.00 shipped with couplers & clamps & the Hahn Racecraft SMIC off of E-bay for $200.00 shipped & I like the sleeper look myself.

AFAIK no one builds upgraded SMICs for our cars anymore. Your only options are to find a used one somewhere which can be very hard and sometimes expensive, or you can use a Supra SMIC.

i would go with the fmic.. i have a boost leak too, im just gonna get a fmic since i would probably end up getting one later on anyways.. just save some money and get the fmic.

1have the VRSF kit on my 2g. Its a quality set-up. I also have a Dave Brode UICP with a 1g bov that im getting rid of for cheap. PM me if you want it.

I happen to like my Supra SMIC in that it both works quite well and allows the car to remain a sleeper. It is also a budget option though the savings are not as significant these days as they once were.

My car looks completely stock from the outside except for the exhaust and the low setting. The exhaust will likely be changed to something more stealth in the spring so that it still looks perfectly normal while scaring the crap out of passengers whenever I feel like it.

Why's that? I'd hate to get a fmic since I already bought the dejon pipe setup, plus I like my crash bar where it is :thumbsup:

They used to but I assume there wasn't really any money in it. Performance from a good short route setup will be better and not a whole lot more money so as that market grew it pushed out the upgraded SMIC market.

Pick up a Supra SMIC if that is what you want. I love mine and it is cooling a lot of air from a turbo that is heading out of its efficiency range.
