Hey fellas, I was just wondering...would running hard intercooler pipes on my stock SMIC be any good? The reason im wanting to keep the stock SMIC for now, is im moving to Phoenix at the end of the year, and Im more worried about school then performance at the time, plus i dont want to attract any theft-attention. But, i still want awesome performance, and i believe that removing all the crappy flexible hose crap for hard piping would be smart. Basically, is running hard piping on the stock SMIC worth doing or what?

Thanks! :thumb:

Is replacing that restrictive piping a good thing? - Yes

Also I see your parts wishlist includes a Greddy 24r FMIC. To use that kit you're going to want the rest of the Greddy piping anyways so go for it :thumb:

Oh and I almost forgot...WOOT for another Phoenix DSMer.

look by the air filter and look the UICP...see that big KINKY that destroys air flow. Also the upper half of the UICP and LICP is made of a mesh material. So when you set on the throttle it expands which also ruins the air flow. In more personal experience the I/C piping made more power than my injen intake

I agree also, get rid of all that rubber hose that you have for intercooler piping! That stuff sucks. And also, if you or anyone is in need of an HKS throttle body elbow, PM me, I have one i am not using. $40 shipped! :thumb:

Right on, thats what i figured. I know about the hoses expanding and that crappy cheeto looking pipe running underneith intake...thats why i figured on getting rid of all those parts.

About getting the GReddy FMIC, the only reason i dont want an FMIC, right now, is because im moving to Phoenix and it'll attract too much theft-attention, and i dont need that while attending UTI.

DSMayhem: Where abouts in Phoenix? I'll be in Avondale most likely, as close as i can get to the new UTI campus hopefully. BTW, whats your experiance/advice about theft?

Right now I live in central Phoenix, but I am moving in the next month to Tatum and the 101. North Phoenix/Scottsdale area. As far as theft goes I have only been down here a year and have yet to have any problems...but then again I don't have a FMIC yet  Only problems anyone I know have had is some drunk guy beating up my buddies new Mercedes because he was parked in his spot. So no real "theft" per say since I've been here.

only restriction in your piping is the stock upper intercooler pipe. all the rubber pipes are fine.

buschur has dyno proof that replacing the rubber piping with metal piping gives a zero power difference.

with that said, i suggest you fix your upper intercooler pipe and be done with it. replacing your lower intercooler pipe, upper rubber pipe, and tb elbow is as effective as flushing 150 dollars down the toilet. :thumb:

intersting statement.

all that money and the injen intake pipe is dyno proven for 0hp and 0tq gains. :shhh: ;)

Complete ic piping does make a bigger difference then an intake, he was refering to the complete ic system. And my lower in take pipe even on the stock turbo helped, mybe it didnt add power but throttle response was improved ALOT. As for ic pipe vs injen or any intake for that matter(they are all the same) the uicp ALONE made at least 2 times the improvement over the intake. The only power you get from the intake is the filter, the stock airtube will flow fine for any turbo it will fit, mind you if the free mods have been done. Now if you want to run a huge turbo or the "cool" whoosh sound then the pipe is neccesary.
