I had the n1 system on my 92 talon and got the apexi gt downpipe and catback for my 97 talon. I have had it only a few weeks. I even managed to modify my bracket and bolted the exhaust to the block in front.
Anyway was doing some test and tune and car started sounding funny tractor sound prettty much coming from near front of car.
I looked under and hanger snapped off my nice apexi gt downpipe.!

I would return it for warranty by the paperwork and shipping would be expensive so guess just try to repair it local. The local muffler shops said they didnt want to do it as its stainless ,some hack shops said no problem but managed to find a place with tig so will get it fixed up with that. Maybe I should have the guy weld the other hangers to make sure they stay on there.

Anyone else have this happen to their apexi.
I could maybe see if the system was years old or used thru winter but this is the top of the line one supposedly.I guess it could maybe just be a bad weld. There can't be much torque on the hanger the flex pipe should take care of that and the downpipe like I said is bolted to the block.

ive never heard of apex products being faulty like this
and they do stand by their products

also on the other hand ive NEVER heard of anyone acutally bolting aftermarket dp's to the block... i sure dont

of course these pics are old so take it for what it's worth....
and my downpipe is bolted to the block also. some have theorized that not having the downpipe supported contributes to broken exhaust manifold studs and turbo to manifold bolts loosening.

Yeah my apexi bracket to block was also out to lunch on lining up so modified the bracket on the car and go it to work fine. Its more for the weight of the turbo and exhaust manfiold supposedly than anything else.
I am sure it will be cheap to weld it back in there.I am wondering if the other hanger welds are even tig welded or if they are just migged or whatever? Maybe I am being anal and should just get normal muffler shop to weld the bracket back on. As said the bracket pulled out a one inch squarer piece of the pipe and that is what is causing leaking.
For now thinking muffler tape or maybe some t bolt 3 inch clamps over the hole for temp as the noise bothers me and am supposed to take the car to a place with tig and hoist in a day or so depending on when he can fit me in for the repair.

The first thing that comes to mind is you motor mounts. What kind of condition are they in? Unless it was a faulty weld, the only other way for the hanger to get ripped off is from excessive movement.

I had a ripped up drivers mount and just put in a new rubber one.My front and back mounts seemed ok when put them in and install energy suspension poly inserts in there.
I didn't look super close at my passenger side mount but think it was ok its hard to inspect them in the car with the rubber side things on there in the way.
I will take the car and rev the heck out of it and see how much movement I get.I could go with pure poly for the side mounts maybe.
I still think the weld was just defective or something.Cpurse mabye it got weak or broke when the drivers mount was bad and didn't really let go completely till today.
Does anyone know if they use tig welding on the gt apexi or just mig.
Like said maybe being too anal if mig welding will fix it.I think going to try a couple of t bolt clamps today to temp shut up the leaking.

I ripped the flex section right out of a RRE downpipe with 200 miles on it, because of one torn mount. Revving the engine won't make it move enough. The best way to do it is have somebody stand outside the car and watch the engine while you slowly let the clutch out with the parking brake on. Don't let the clutch out all the way, just to the point where it starts to engage. The engine will most likely move a lot more than you're expecting it to.

Hmm thought it would be easy to check by revving it up.So what mount was ripped ?

It was a 1g so the mounts are different, but it was the drivers side mount and the front mount.

I took it to shop and they tigged it mostly but couldnt' get tick to top of hanger so had to mig that. I really think in hindsite should have maybe just left the band clamp I used to temp repair on there and mabye welded a hanger to the band clamp or made up another hanger or even had no hanger.I think I might be getting a bit more vibration and noise now transmitted thru that hanger although it does have rubber on there.
Whatever .if it breaks again likely going to just use bandclamps with or without hanger.
