Long story REALLY short --

Im going to have to end up hacking my Apexi downpipe to fit a high flow cat in my exhaust system :( . Im looking at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-54959/overview/

Its a 3" -slip fit- style high flow cat. If it says the inlet/out is 3" and my apexi is also 3", wont this turn into a welding project vs a slip on project? Shouldnt the cat be like 3.1" or something, to allow the downpipe to be able to fit inside?

If it is a slip fit, it should be 3" I.D. vs 3" O.D.

Call Summit, provide them the part number and ask if it's 3" inner diameter or 3" outer diameter. Given that it is slip fit, it should be inner, meaning if your Apex-i downpipe is 3" O.D., it will "slip" snugly inside the converter. You will still need to clamp it.

Or take it to the shop and they'll weld it up with flangs so its bolt on.

OK thats what I thought -- I tried googling "apexi downpipe O.D" LOL .. you could imagine how NONE results I got ... looking at the link and every other place ive been looking for the past 2 hrs, it appears that the ID is 3" on the cat.

Part of the long story was that I dont trust the shops around me to weld anything, and my welding skills are par at best

Got the cat and it was literally the same ID and OD as the apexi. It turned out my welding skills were so shitty because my welder was broken internally. Got a new welder and everytbing went smooth :)
