Just wondering if im the only one that has had this problem.well here it is.I broke my drivers side half shaft and i picked up a refurbished one from autozone.Well i get home and open it and its for a non turbo 2g.So i take it back and they say they dont have one and send me to oriellys cause they said they had it.I get there and they have one but its for the passenger side but they swear its the drivers side.So i go back to autozone order one and it came in today and its to short plus it has no abs ring.So my question is has anybody else had this problem, and if so where did you get yours at

That was the part number the box had on it today.I also took the old one in and they measured it.If they don't get it right I'm going to advanced Saturday.

Well im not 100% but since they are both fwd I can see how it got mixed up. The only difference between your car and mine is the way the motor sits but same chasey. my passenger cv is long and your drivers side is long too if the splines are the same it could possibly have the same part number at autozobe or checkers. But im not totally sure on that hopefully someone will correct me if im wrong.

Yea i was wondering if they had the axles mixed up with n/t axles, but it said 2.0 turbo when they looked it up and they swore i had the passenger side axle in my hand at orielly's.

Get the GSP axles from Advanced Auto Parts. There brand new units no re man parts! I have like 50 launches on them and have no issues yet. There also life time warranty!

+1 I went with GSP and it was absolutely perfect for fitment. So far it has held up great. You just have to make sure it's the right one, have the guy turn the computer around so you can read the description.

Do not go with the Oreilly axle. Even if they have the "right" one for your car, it's not. The splines are machined completely wrong.

I tried the passenger side GSP half shaft for my 93 AWD and could not get it to fit. It looked really good and all sizes looked to match with the old one.

On installation the snap ring would not compress to go through the splines on the transmission. No matter what I tried. The grove and the snap ring were much larger than the one I took out. I could not transfer the old snap ring to the new axle due to the size differences, not that I really wanted to as it is a replacement item on change out.

After the snap ring started to have hammer marks from trying to get the shaft in. My conclusion was the snap ring was thicker and stiffer and would not compress enough to make it into the transmission. It was the right size for the grove on the shaft. I ended up returning the half shaft and getting a rebuilt unit from auto zone, Advance did not have on in stock at that store.

The rebuilt unit had the same size snap ring and grove as one I took out. It slid in just as it should. Unfortunately I did not replace the oil seal at the same time, so I need to do it all over again.

I really wanted to use the GSP half shaft as it looked real good and new is usually better than rebuilt. I just could not make it work for my situation. I am hoping that this is an isolated situation.

Oreilly's. Just make sure you tell them EXACTLY what model you have. Even the ABS option changes things from what they said, but the one i got had the abs exciter on the outer part anyway, go figure. They ordered mine and had it in next day. Perfect fit and it was only like 70$ brand new, no core exchange

Steer clear of autozone for pass axle seals. Mine leaks after 100 miles. Went to oreilly and am installing that one tomorrow.

When i get mine from oreillies i look up the part number on their website than go in there. Most of their employees are nearing complete stupidity around here. Here are the part numbers for a 97 gst driver side axle from their site.

Manual new w-abs--------MI8070
Auto new w-abs-----------MI8097

Manual reman w-abs-----60-3275
Manual reman wo abs----60-3262

Auto reman w-abs--------60-3261
Auto reman wo abs-------60-3277

If it s leaking than it is likely the seal. You can just look at the seal surface and if it is smooth than it is fine.

U da man bryan! Thanks bro, im bookmarking this thread for those PN's. Yea, its been awhile since ive installed one but it didnt look right to begine with, i think they gave me the wrong part. It just barely drips a few drops a night now but thats enough for me to change it. The one i picked up today from oreilly was the same brand but different pn on the box. It looks identical to the oem so i think im safe this time. Or lets hope so.

OK so the shaft that came in today was the right one so problem solved after 4 axles and 2 different stores.
