Hahn s20g questions

Hi everyone, I’m getting ready to purchase a turbo and have ran across a few I’m interested in. My car is primarily a weekend worrier and will see only a few miles a year. I would like to know what the hahn super 20g can make on pump say 93 octane? I have done quite a bit of research and know to swap in a mhi 7cm housing knowing that’s where hahn screwed up. Another question I would like to ask, is the turbos chra a genuine 20g mhi unit? And does it except all the standard mhi 20g parts. My budget for a turbo is right at $500 and would really like to see around the 350 to 400 whp mark if possible. As always thanks for all of the help fellas.

You need to link us to the turbo. There are several variants of the Hahn 20g, most are t3 flanges.

Turbo alone will not dictate power numbers. You build a complete engine setup to accomplish your goals. Your post makes it sound like youre trying to spend $500 To double your cars horsepower


So can you slap a 20g on your stock 1g and make 350whp, no, not even close.

On pump gas you will need a 20g or bigger for your goals. @chrysler kid is correct about needing more than a turbo te get there. Fuel system upgrade and engine management would be my first 2 up grades. I'm sure @JusMX141 has quite a few turbos to meet your goals and will be able to answer a LOT of your questions

Oh yeah I understand that, I will be running link for sure, I also have a walbro 255 pump that’s re wired and a map afpr kit. As far as injectors go that’s up in the air. I’m guessing it’s going to be right at 1100cc’s and I do know I will be running fic brand injectors. As of right now I’m collecting parts for the build and I don’t want to back track if you know what I mean, trust me the car will not be done in a week or two. It’s not my daily so I can take my time and get it right.

I found a few turbos at a pretty good price, one is a precision pte6152 that’s brand new with box and all for $350 the other is a hahn s20g that is new as well and he wants $420 it’s the one with t3 turbine housing with the adapter, it also has the compressor exit facing passenger side.

I have no problem buying the 20g and cutting re welding that compressor elbow and slapping on a evolll 7cm housing, I do believe I can get the 20g for a lot cheaper then the asking price. But I don’t want a turbo that’s not genuine mhi and that’s what I need to know, I have seen guys on here running 20g’s with 400 plus hp so I’m pretty sure the hahn can do it but I just want to make sure the hahn is the same as a genuine mhi 20g just with a 10cm t3 housing slapped on?

@Mello thank you bud, yeah I thought they were. Hopefully I can get the numbers I’m hoping for, although I am concerned with wheel spin being fwd, so I guess I will have to upgrade suspension as well.

The extra lag of the 10cm2 housing might help you on a FWD. I had a S16G on my Neon, it was very bearable. Trade some torque for the flow potential vs. the 7cm - if you max out the compressor, you would probably be quicker overall, even with the slower spool.

@Canadian_CD9A Thanks for the info bud, I noticed though that a lot of guys complain about the adapter for the turbine housing leaks like a female dog, could I just weld that adapter to the turbine housing without messing up or getting in the way of the bolt holes? Excuse my ignorance on this particular conversation but I have never seen one of these turbos or the adapter up close. Thanks for the help bro.

Never did the adapter thing, but as long as all the surfaces are flat and mate properly (maybe a little copper high temp gasket maker) I don't see why Or even how they would/could leak....

Like I said in your other post, I have a t3 with a t3 manifold.

Why not stick with the t3 (if that's what it has) and get a cheaper cast t3 manifold, they're still proven esp at 400hp. I didn't know you were FWD, and like @Canadian_CD9A said, it will Def help with wheel spin and you'll have a bit more top end with some room to grow.

One more thing. Read up on the hahn 20gs. I just did and after 10 mins of searching the amount of negativity I'm finding on this turbo definitely outweighs the praise. Some people put down big numbers with them, but reliability is a huge issue with them..

Basically what I've read is up to and anything more than 350hp on street tires and you're not gonna be able to push the pedal all the way down in 1st or 2nd or even 3rd without raping the tires along with it.

If I was you, i would get a regular tried n true evo3 16g and work from there.

Or marry the daughter of the owner of a tire company.

See that’s the thing, people say things about reliability on it but I now know it’s a tru mhi turbo. If it’s a true mhi 20g td05 turbo right? How could it have reliability issues? All hahn did from what I can tell is change the turbine to that t3 10cm housing, Just doesn’t make any sense to me ya know.

Your killing me man ....... knew I should of bought that gsx . Well screw it, I’m going big. If I have to I will run the widest just barely street legal slicks I can fit under this pig.

I know I will be running link, so I think I can run boost by gear although remember, I’m running a f4a33 auto so that might help.

Oh that’s another thing I wanted to ask, how do I tell if it’s a genuine precision turbo? I noticed from his pics it has a white sticker on the mouth of the compressor. It also has a hot side that apparently is a bolt up to a dsm. He said in the add it has a mhi type turbine housing. I know it’s a pretty old turbo because he said he purchased it about ten years ago and never got around to using it and took another route. He’s also selling a recirculating o2 housing and tial waste get with it for $600 total but then again I don’t even know how to tell if the tial is real or not up close you know?

And I saw in another post you were talking about swapping the housing over to an mhi 7cm housing right? Why not get a whole genuine mhi unit right out the gate?

My first dsm had a buschur 20g on it, I believed buschur clipped and ported a genuine mhi or something and threw his name on it but that turbo was great. At only 8psi on a stock motor with 1000cc injectors and 2g maf, cheap front mount, etc I made just under 250 whp... Had a 2 stage boost controller that was low boost, high setting was 18psi and you could smell rubber burning like one of the belts/pulleys were misaligned so we didn't even run it and I sold it after.. But it was quick for having so few mods.

20Gs are great turbos for street cars

Because I haven’t really ran into one yet. I have $400 for a turbo as of right now, I’m really interested in mx’s 20g and thinking of going with that but just need to know if it can put out good numbers.

Umm I'm not sure if I trust that as a true PTE turbo.. My 6165 is from 9 years ago that I just got totally rebuilt and it looks like this. Still says precision on the comp cover.. But it is a .70ar anti surge cover tho.. Not sure what they used back then for regular covers but it looks a little suspect

Yeah see, your pic looks like a proper precision turbo. His in the add seems very suspicious. I think I’m going with that Hahn s20g from a proven seller.

Its been over 10years since I've been in a car with that turbo. My friend ran the sc61(t3 version) is his car and it's comparable to a gt35. However, the Bolt-on housings from precision flow like crap, if you're looking to max it out. For fwd, I wouldn't mind the lag.

For ease of instillation, you can't beat the 20g Justin is offering. Bolt on and go.

I’m thinking I can just weld up that adapter to the turbine housing to prevent leaks.

Yeah mine is real, but did you see the one in the craigslist ad? Were you saying that ones real? I'm just not familiar..

But Justin @JusMX141 is a good seller and he doesn't screw people over ever. Message him, he usually has a whole list of turbos available..
