Had my first encounter with the fuel pump fitting today.....

.... and got my ass handed to me. :thumbdown

It is rusted beyond all recognition. I'm convinced it's no longer two seperate pieces by any definition.

Soaked it down with PB blaster and flare nut wrenches, then progressed to a mini-sledge, which rounded off the tank-side flare nut. Then tried locking pliers - no go.

Any other options other than to try the forward fitting and hope that one works? I'm almost ready to cut the rear and forward metal lines, and run standard fuel hose all the way between them....

I usually just end up cutting the metal hose. Then I slightly flare the end, and use a pipe of rubber hose on it with JB Weld and good clamps.

If you're careful, that will be fine.

Thanks. Yeah, that's what I was thinking about doing.....

Question, though. I know that the stock fuel lines are pretty restrictive when you start getting into areas of the fuel filter and such.

So, I'm thinking about just running a new line all the way from the pump to the FPR. Aluminum piping is pretty cheap - less than $20 for 20' of it. It's rated to 250PSI....

After that, a bender tool is $10, and a Harbor Freight double-flaring tool is $10.

I'm thinking that running the new line would help out in a couple areas. The new line won't rust like the old mild steel line, and I can convert to a standard inline fuel filter that'd be less restrictive (not to mention easier to remove!)

Is there any downside (other than the labor, and chaking for leaks) to this? I know I'd have to use fuel hose in a couple areas due to flex issues.

Yeah ....

I may also go with SS tubing, depending on if I can find a decent quality 37* flaring tool for less than an arm and a leg.

Thanks
