hacked intake?

i have a 91 lazer n/t automatic and was told to get a hacked intake and to cut a 6x9 hole in my air can and get a K&N air filter, just wondering if anyone has any pictures of instructions on how i might go about doing this, i dont wanna start cutting shit, and what exactly do i cut? thanks for reading and ill be looken forward to some feedback, thanks
