Alright guys, heres the situation... i want to get new shocks, and springs.. and i was thinking about getting H&R race springs which lower your car 1.7-2in... i was also going to go with abx adjustable shocks. Now, i'm hesitant to get the springs b/c i hear the ride is extremely rough. I really dont want to feel every bump. The ABX shocks run about 90-100 bucks a peice.. where as the gr-2's are like 50 a peice.. i want to get rid of my wheel well gap, which is like a good 3 in with my stock rims.. so what set up should i go for? should i go with the h&r sport springs? or the race ones? should i go with the abx's? or the gr-2s? Also, is there a rule of thumb as to when i need to get a camber kit? i hear anything more than 2in. you need one possibly in the rear.i need some advice guys.

ps- i plan on getting 16in ABA wheels from tire rack. i would go bigger.. but by the time i'm done with suspension.. i'm gunna be broke.. and wont be able to afford any tires...

dont u mean the KYB AGX shocks bro..not abx...
and yeah there good shocks adjustable 5 way i believe...
stick with the kyb-agx shocks and get some nice springs...H&R is good but since u wana slam the ryde like i do with stock wheel and get rims later ur gona have to get the lowest springs u can and when they set in the drop a lil more...
as for the back..im not sure what u meant but the back is supposed to be higher than the front to give it a slanted look...or it can be all even...but i dun tink theres any springs that come with lez say for ex. 1.3 inches all around...
but check around...
peace

what i ment to say, is that i have heard you need a camber kit for the back, b./c when you lower your car.. the rear tires will be screwed up. But when i wanted to know is that i have heard that if you drop your car more than 2in. then you need a camber kit.. so if i were to go with those H&R race springs.. would i need a camber kit?

i am getting the gr-2 shocks....and im stuck between getting the h & r springs or the eibachs? how muhc a drop does each one give. Considering im prolly getting 17" rims and a body kit i dont want a big drop b/c i live in south FL, lots of rain and speed bumps.

get the H and R springs ..theyre much better than eibachs in my opinion
and if ur lucky u wont need a camber kit and an alignment would be good enough to realign your tires....if its bad the technician will know and he can tell you if ull need one or not...so dun waste ur money :)

I have H&R sport springs and i love them. I personally think they are way better than eibach just b/c they don't sag. The sport spring lowered my car 1.7 in the front and 1.4 in the rear putting more weight on the front wheels getting better traction. Its much lower than the pro-kit and they give a good ride.

Hey my95tsi, what size are your wheels? I'm debating whether to get the h&r sport, or h&r race springs.. since i am buying my friend's 16in Enkei's.. i think i should get the race springs, since they will drop my 2-1.7in. what do you think

i just have the stock 16 inch wheels. i will be getting 17's in about a month but the sport springs dropped my car quite a bit. i'd imagine the race's are pretty much riding the ground. I can't make it up most driveways and i have to really watch the road or i might as well say goodbye to my bumper. I only let one person drive my car besides me b/c it hits everything. If you live in a place with alot of potholes and alot of speedbumps and alot of steep driveways then go with the sport springs. My front is about the same as a eibach sportline kit but the back is alittle higher. I went to the store the other day and drove over one of those long speedbumps that are about 5 feet long, and as soon as my front tires made it over my back tires were still on the other side and i could here my exhaust scraping the bump underneath. Just a thought, you might appreciate the sport springs instead.

Well they aren't that bad i just gave you the worse. I still love them and wouldn't trade them for anything. I say get them and i promise you'll be happy. Where you from by the way? do you live in a city?

hmm, well its up to you. It just takes time getting used to them. My car is a daily driver and i drive it to and from school, 500 mile round trip all the time. My bumper has some scrapes underneath but thats normal. I don't hit hardly anything now unless i get myself in a situation i can't really get out of. Just take it slow, its the chances you have to take when you have a lowered car but trust me the benefits outweigh the costs. It looks awesome and it handles great and you get alot of attention.

oh and you'll probably need a camber kit. The back cost me $12 in washers and bolts and it believe i put 4 washers on each side and the front you'll probably need +/- 1 degree kit. Get it checked out before you get a camber kit b/c all cars are different. Hope it all works out for you bro!

Nooooo... do more research with the search. The AGX shocks suck, you will find references of the damping not being matched well enough the uprated aftermarket springs. I have ridden and driven my friends 2g GST with the AGX and then the Konis and I can testify to the accuracy of the reports found here in the forums. The AGX ride terribly compared to the yellow Konis. Drive over a bump and the AGX will send you bouncing harshly a few times. That is now how a properly lowered car should ride. It is not the norm!!

The Konis take the bumps and respond in a very controlled manner. The difference is night and day on highway expansion joints that run across the entire width of the road.

One of the AGX in my friend's car was actually totally dead after just 2 years of weekend driving. The Konis have been on his car now for 2 years and they still ride like new.

While full coilovers may be overkill for a street car... you really do not want to skimp on suspension. I've been modding cars for fun for a long time and I see people make the same mistake over and over by going the cheapest route. They all end up spending too much because they ended up buying several suspensions before going with what they should've gotten in the first place. My friend with the 2G for example, the amount he ended up spending on both systems... he could've gotten a full adjustable Tein or Sustec coilover system.
