whats up guys i recently bought a rebuilt gvr4 trans to replace my 90 trans (broken mount hole). i was wondering if someone could tell me if these transmissions have a front lsd. in addition fir future reference what parts from my 90 trans fit in the gvr4 trans ( both are 22 spline) i have the gvr4 tcase with the case housing as well.

if needed i can get the code from the trans for someone to decode as i suck that that stuff

You sure it's a GVR4? My 91 is a 23 spline and the US didn't have a 90 GVR4. And all DSM trans came with an open front diff.

So I was told its a gvr4 trans. I have the tcase and trans so I suspose it doesn't matter about the spline count. It is a 22 spline tho unless I'm counting wrong

I'd assume the Galant GSX came with a 22 spline, as far as I know the gear ratios on the GSX are the same as a DSM, so it *should* be an identical trans. The 23 spline VR4 trans is different gearing than a DSM 23 spline though.

As far as I know yes. Is there something wrong with the one you just got? If not, just run that with the t-case and call it good.

nope i bought the vr4 recently rebuilt because my 90 talon trans has at cracked bolt hole ( which im debating on selling or keeping for parts just in case)

GGSX trans will NOT work in your car. The GVR4 trans will. I'm not sure on spline differences, but would be as easy as changing the tcase. The GGSX trans would require a rear diff change, besides the fact the GGSX trans is weaker due to non tapered bearings.

Pay attention to final drive ratio.

gvr4 were available with both 22 and 23 spline. They use a w5m33 tranny like a dsm but the four digits after the w5m33 stamping will tell you what it is. Gvr4 use different gears on first so it has a different input shaft as well. GVR4 is likely stamped nqbk or nqbm.
US spec trans do not have front LSD on any model.

I'd assume the Galant GSX came with a 22 spline, as far as I know the gear ratios on the GSX are the same as a DSM, so it *should* be an identical trans. The 23 spline VR4 trans is different gearing than a DSM 23 spline though.

For the sake of discussion the galant gsx did come in both 22 and 23 spline variants with the same output shaft as a dsm. The transmission is not a w5m33. It is a w5m31. It is in no way an identical trans.
