Hello

My car is 1990 talon tsi awd, it run mid 10s on gt3082r at 30 psi. I want to run consistent 9s , like mid 9s. Im between two turbos, gt4088 non-bb and gt4094r bb, first one price is US$ 1000 and second one is US$ 1500.
Question is, is it worth to spend us$ 500 to get ball bearing turbo?
Which one can take my car to goal? (mid 9s)
It is a MUST to run nitrous to spool those?
Car is full drag, mods are on profile.
One more question, what exhaust a/r should i get? These both turbos are twin scroll.

Thanks for help

You aren't just getting ballbearing. You are getting a larger compressor wheel (3mm on the inducer and 6mm on the exducer). The GT4092R turbo will guide you away from surge issues, have a potential for more horsepower, will spool faster and have a variety of turbine housings to choose from. A/R is just something you have to hope and test to see if it works out for your set-up. If I had to guess, I'd suggest 1.06 A/R.

I think that answers your question.

The 4094R is the largest GT40 that Garrett offers. Both will get you to the 9s with or without n2o. Ive been looking into the GT4094R with a .95 AR.

Do you want to use n2o to spool or would you like to go fast without any use of n2o?

I want to use n2o only if it a MUST to spool those turbos, not to go faster.

Are gt4094r capable to spool up without n2o? you know, for drag launch

Thanks

I run a GT4088 with the 1.06 hotside and I don't use N20 to spool. If all you're going to do is drag race your car then who cares how late it spools haha. It would be retarded on the street, but at the track where you spend most of your time high in the rev range it's just fine. Just use a stutterbox or such to get it breathing a little before you launch and the rest of the run you'll be wrapping it out so it'll be just fine.

It's a wonderful turbo. I love the fact that it's journal bearing because when it does take a shit I'll be able to have it rebuilt for far less than a ball bearing turbo. This last season was my 1st full season with it and most of the time I was just getting my set-up dialed in. Coming from a 60-1 it made all the difference. Sure it's a pig down low, but that doesn;t matter at the track. I clicked off a couple very low 10 second passes, but I foresee 9's being easily attainable next season.

Well with the .95 A/R its slightly smaller A/R due to the twin scroll (material used to divide it).

I dont see the need of using n2o to spool with 2-step, BB, and twin-scroll housing.

I have no problems spooling a 4088R on my car -- especially for track use.

If you want easy 9's, go with the 4094R, a 0.95 or 1.01 T4 divided turbine V-band flange setup.

I am using a 6200rpm 2-step, and am boosting around 25psi at the line. With anti-lag, it easily makes 40+ at the line.

The 4094R also has an excellent flow map that will easily let you run up to 52psi without problems, and make 800+whp.

You won't need N2o. Boost is your friend.

OMG Inca Kola I love that stuff!!!! :)

It's REALLY hard to find up here in Indiana.

Looks like you have a good choice for turbo, happy boosting! :thumb:

That turbo looks awesome. Maybe I just need to lay off the crack rock, but to me it looks like his exhaust downpipe is dumping right into the drivers side front wheel well? Wouldn't you risk melting something important like a front bumper or a tire letting all the exhaust dump there? I remember reading a post about these two turbo's a while back where somone mentioned that the 4094 was a mismatched combination of wheels and that it would not be nearly as efficent as the 4088. Geoff from full race mentioned the same thing somewhere else basically saying that a ts bb 4088 was an ideal turbo and that the 4094 was basically a 42r crammed into a smaller frame. He made it sound like those shooting for between 700-800whp should go with the 4088 and if you were looking for more power to just jump up to a 42r. Reguarless the turbo looks great and I hope you prove Geoff wrong.

A lot of cars have the exhaust dumped out the side of the front bumper without melting either.

Yep you just need to know what you are doing.

WHat do you mean you need to know what yoru doing:confused: You just need to not be to closed to anything vital and using a metal cover on the back and front of where you exhaust is a CYA mod too.
