:toobad:

I purchased new oem water lines since the mechanic who worked on my car bent them in a spot horribly and hacked them up ( along with new crush washers and the banjo bolts ) ..

Id like to know what other people are using for water cooling their turbo and what connections they are using , pictures would help me tremendosusoulslly ( big word for me :/ )

and what size is the banjo bolt incase i need to buy over priced aeroquip banjo "fittings" .

I have heard some people do not even bother using their water lines? , is this safe? and do i just plug the holes on the waterpipe ( towards the heater core ) and the fitting on the back of the thermostat housing with jb weld?

Thanks guys!

On a ball bearing turbo such as the GT30R, you absolutely need to use the water lines. They are most certainly not optional.

I personally had an assortment of old ones kicking around, both 1g and 2g, and the ones I ended up using when I was mocking it up were two of the 2g ones I think.

It really doesn't matter, so long as you can manage to slide a coolant hose over them. You can bend 'em a little too if necessary, they're pretty malleable.

Some people replace the stock lines with AN fittings and S.S. braided line.

Dang , ya i bought the 1g ones .. I guess the 2g would of been better since they do not have that screw fitting on the end.

ss brake lines? .. you mean just standard braided An hose i guess? . I would do this by all means because I have plenty of -8 and -6 starlite laying around but the banjo fittings , plus the whatever AN male size to plug in line or screw in is about 65 dollars total just for about 4 pieces total .

anyone have some pictures?

Thank You most people don't give those

Thats because normal members can no longer give them out, if you want to give someone rep points you have to post a thread in the Rep. forum with a link to the thread they helped you out on & the mods will review the post & give out the points if their deserved.

Like was posted above no coolent defently isn't an option with a Garrett BB centersection. They use a very limited oil supply unlike a std thrust bearing so the oil isn't enough to cool it alone. I just bought 2 new 2g lines as I had already bent my factory lines to use with my evoIII so I figured I'd start fresh with the new 3052. I haven't installed the turbo yet as I'm waiting on some other parts but I test fitted them on the turbo & it looks like the return may not work to well as its a smaller pipe & doesn't clear the larger comp cover. I may be able to bend it out enough sideways to go around the cover but I order another supply line just incase.

The factory lines are pretty bendable so depending on where you need the bend you can just use a tube bender or if you don't have one or it won't work in the area you need a bend, insert a screw driver or some other round object that makes a nice fit and slowing start bending the tube to make your desired shape. Inserting something into the pipe helps to prevent it from collapsing & by using this method you can actually make some pretty descent bends without kinking the pipes.

I used the stock coolant lines with a little bending and it worked fine. If you want something more custom just go to your local hose and fitting shop and get what you need.

i used to have stock coolant lines with a little bending. but now i have a banjo with a barbed end which i have a coolant hose on. works much better imo. i can run it wherever i want and it is a larger diameter line.

Ya I just ended up using stock lines , I just cut the Ubend one and ill loop the 6an ( think 6an fits on them right ? ) around the cool side of the turbo and back up .. )

Just had to bend the other stock line a bit and shave off the eyelet for the bolt.

This sounds like a good idea but did you use anything to protect the rubber hose from the heat of the exhaust mani? I don't think I would feel to confident running rubber hose right up beside the turbine housing without some kind of heat protection. I picked up some of the black DEI hose/line protection to use over my external WG source line, which comes in 3ft lengths so I'm thinking I'll have some left over so I'm going to put some over the rear metal return line since it runs fairly close to the exhaust mani.
