Are there any drawbacks to getting a gt30r in a mitsu exhaust housing ( ext. WG of coarse), i was thinking of doing this. I know the T3 are more efficient, just wondering what your thoughts are. Its for a street car and my mods are as follows. looking to easily make 400 whp on pump gas.Redline 7k. What do you recommend here?

Head:
ported and polished
comp 101200

Block:
.20 Wiseco 8.5:1
Eagle Rods
Tri-metal bearings

All Arp Hardware

The rest of mods will follow after turbo is picked.

hmm, i think thats one of the few turbos I havent even looked into.
It is now time for me to investigate that, thank you.

Im looking to possibly stay in the mitsu housing for now

also pump gas will be my only friend, I want something with decent spool since the 7k redline, but im Fwd so not too quick, possibly from 4k-7k in full boost.

a 50 trim like the 5031e looks like it will be a little small for this goal and I will be really maxing it out to get that- in turn higher heat, overheating and possibilty ofknock/ detonation as I raise boost to dangerous pump gas levels on my setup.

Does anyone not suggest I go with a mitsu housing for a larger medium sized turbo?

Why only have a 7k redline? You are having the head done anyways, why not get a set of BC springs and retainers for like $250, and rev to at least 8k?

Yes there are a few and they are enormous.

One of the best parts of GT series that almost everyone overlooks is the extremely efficient and free flowing turbines. Garret designed those turbines to be used in certain housings. A Mitsu housing was not one of them. Mitsu housings are what is called a compromised volute. If you were somehow to unroll a normal turbine housing, it would look like a funnel. A Mitsu housing would look like half a funnel. Half a funnel does not flow as well as a full funnel and also hurts turbine efficiency. Turbine efficiency makes power and makes power safer. The less energy the turbine needs to make the boost you want, the more exhaust can be wastegated around it, thus lowering backpressure in the manifold. We all know less backpressure is good for many things.

Because of this compromised volute shape, a Mistu housing that spools equivalent to a Garret housing will flow less. Or looked at another way, a Mitsu housing that flows as much as a Garret housing will spool slower.

Garret housings make more power and spool faster, it isn't even debatable. The only thing you have to decide is whether it's worth the money to buy a T3 flanged tubular. I think it is, tubulars significantly outflow and outspool cast manifolds anyway. Combine that with a Garret housing and the car wouldn't even be comparable to a Mitsu housing, cast manifold car.:thumb:

Hmm, I will look much more into this, there are a few T3 manifolds im interested in. Shearer, Punishment and SLS all have manifolds that I really like, they are all also in similiar price ranges within 150 or so dollars. I originally wanted a full race, but the price is just a little too high at this time for me.

Maybe a GT30R in a t3 housing is the way to go, just wondering its pump gas manners at high boost, 24-30 psi (eeek)

A better flowing hot side will make more power on pump gas (less backpressure = less knock). This is exactly why everyone thinks (as just stated up there about the 50 trim at 400hp) these turbos are maxed well below what the compressors can actually do, it's because almost everyone uses bolt on crap. My 50 trim made the numbers below my name on pump gas at 23psi, a conservative AFR, only SAFC to tune, stock cams, stock IM, stock head, etc. Most "bolt on" 50 trim people would be happy to see that at more boost with 272's.

an FP turbine is a far cry from that of bullseye or pte, which is why i said it would depend on which one you were looking at.

Take a look at FP's webite, call Amber and ask her the questions...

93 oct. pump gas

whether you go with a bolt on 30R or a full garrett (my recommendation) you wont be disapointed. its an all around awesome turbo especially for your goal.

Ive been reading that some people have gotten thier R series (bb) turbos to fail due to not follwing oil restrictor and water line guidelines. Is there anything I should be aware of before this purchase off the top, im gonna go do some research but if anyone knows of some trouble areas, id like to hear about it.

Also for the t3 housings are there any recommended O2 housings??

thanks,

the turbo should come with an oil restricter designed for the turbo. the water lines will hook up like stock, there are plenty of people (honda) that dont run water lines ( NOT RECOMMENDED) but if you want your warranty to stay intact they will need to be hooked up. not that its really a problem seeing as you car already has provisions for them.

as far a sthe o2 housing the company that makes the manifold would need to be the one to build the o2 seeing as the housing will be in different positions from stock.
