The other day i had a ball joint failure on my front right spindle. After the ball joint gave out, the cv axle split into 2 pieces, My car would not move anywhere. Why with one tire out, none of the other 3 will move? Its supposed to be AWD correct, So if im in ice or mud and the front tire slips, the rear tires wont spin at all ???

The rear tires will spin it just depends on how hot the fluid gets. It comes to a point where the fluid will get hot enough and it wont help the lsd. Theres threads on here, Ill look but it might take awhile to find for me LOL

With the rear of the car in the air, i spin the left tire forward, and the right tire moves in the opposite direction. Thats open differential right?

But still, with 3 tires with firm grip on the pavement, Why would my front right axle not spinning cause all 3 tires with traction to not move? AWD is supposed to have all 4 tires moving correct?

Lsd and open diff are the same except an lsd has clutches in it for resistance. So if the rear is in the air and it spins freely then its open, if it spins with some resistance, its lsd
