Ok, this problem began weeks ago...while i'm at a dead stop there is a groaning noise when i turn the wheel in either direction, but it went away while car was moving. Now it's louder and it does it all the time, feels like something is going to break soon. i checked the power steering fluid and it is full and looks fine. Sound is definately lounder from right side of car, specifically in the pass wheel well. could it be a ball joint or maybe a tie rod end? tie rods are fairly new, and when jacked up the wheel seems to be solid and shop says it's aligned just fine and there are no issues (it was at the shop at the very start of this problem to be looked at, trustworthy mechanic). Any ideas before i start replacing everything?

Thanks

why don't you have a friend sit inside and turn the wheel back and forth as you look for the source of the sound

If when you're turning and you hear a "CLICKING" sound, more than likely that will be your CV shaft. You need to replace that ASAP, not something you want breaking while you're doing 45 down a road.

I already tried looking in the wheel well while someone turned it, but i couldn't replicate it because the jack took the load off the wheel. I killed 2 CV joints in my last car and it doesn't sound close to that. i hadn't thought of the bushings, i'll look there next. One thing i should add is that it only happens with left to right movement, i hit speed bumps that i could almost bottom out on and it doesn't make any noise at all. i'm hoping that narrows my search. i'll keep posting, but i won't have time/place to do any work until the weekend.

Thanks for input thus far

Alright, I'm pretty sure it's a bushing. thanks for the help. Anybody got any preferences for new bushings or know where i should go to get new ones? Thanks
