Ok since i purchased my 99 gsx ive noticed that its been having a problem cranking over. Its worse when its first start up it takes couple tries to start up. Once its started its not as bad but noise is still there.

Ive checked timing and its all okay.
While im cranking, it sounds like it grinds, and also sometimes the motor locks up and then continues to crank but it will start and run. Otherwise car runs and drive great

any ideas on what it can be? Also has a new starter and ive checked wiring connections and battery was tested and is good

I will try to get a video tomorrow and post up of how it exactly cranks over on cold start and after running for a while

This is what I would do grab a ratchet and socket and manualy turn the engine over by hand. Is it moving freely or not? If its grinding or really hard to move then theres definetly a problem with the engine. Do a compression test then leakdown test if you really want to know the health of the engine.
