Ever since my tranny/clutch and flywheel install I've gotten this grinding noise when I try to start the car. Sometimes the starter doesn't seem to catch the flywheel and spins freely. I've tried a different starter but I have the same problem and I also get these random vibration when the car does start until I press the clutch. Another related problem I have noticed is that it seems to have problems turning over when I press the clutch in as I start it. WTF Any ideas? thanks

Did you get an awd flywheel. Awd flywheels are smaller than FWD flywheels. I have heard of a start striping the a fwd flywheel with an awd tranmission.

Sounds like that the throw out bearing was not out on correctly. Or it could be as said before, that you have the front flywheel. I could also suspect a slave cylinder that needs adjustment. Did you do the work?

I released the pressure to let the TOB loose to see if it was causing any problems and it did the same thing. I did the work, actually did it twice because I forgot to shim the fulcrum ball the first time. I'm leaning towards the guy I traded flywheels with lied to me. Thanks for the help guys.

What about the flywheel did he lie about?

Pulled the flywheel out today to see if it really was a fwd flywheel and it turns out it was the correct one. Put everything back together hoping my problem had magically gone away but it's still there. The transmission is from an evo 3 I think because of some subtle differences I noted when I got it but I don't know if that should affect the starter. Any ideas?

It was complete. I sort of fixed the problems I had with no start by drilling the starter bolt holes bigger and using nails to sort of shim them. Sometimes we have to MaGyver things LOL.
