So what is the difference between setting the BOV soft to setting it hard? I just got a '91 Laser RS Turbo yesterday for 400 bucks and it has a Type S and i was just wondering if there is any advantage to going either way, or if it sounds different, or anything like that. It also has a K&N filter.

The soft/hard setting refers to the stiffness of the spring. Obviously if it's set to "soft" your BOV will release a lot sooner and when under even low pressure/PSI. If you set it to hard, it's the opposite. You don't want it too soft nor too hard. The most important thing is to ensure that it IS recirculated into your intake. I had a Type S and just set it to the stiffest setting possible without that fluttery noise (which I believe indicated that the spring is too tight).

Yep, yea Type S's do flutter!!

So is the "flutter" bad for the turbo? I guess i will just have to play around with the adjustments tomorrow. I can't really drive it around because there are no plates on it yet and there is no insurance on it either yet.

Yep, then I got a Type RS and it does the same thing. ROFL

Personally...I like only 2 BOV's...that's a 1g Crushed and a tial!! I hate how the Greddy BOV's sound and i've heard and seen nothing but problems with them!!

No, just loosen the bolt a bit and you'll be fine. Just make sure it's being recirculated into your intake because if it isn't, and you loosen it, you'll notice that your car will want to die every time you let off the gas/stomp on the clutch while moving.

Yea, when i got it, it wasn't being recirculated, but i put the hose back on today because right now it runs like pure crap. I figured that was why it was dying and recirculating fixed it. Now I am waiting for spark plug wires to come and I am getting new spark plugs too. Hopefully that will fix the misfire/farting like hell and getting no power when throttle is more than 25% depressed problems. :laser:

I would have done the same, you are right-it should fix the problem.

BOV flutter is not bad. But be sure the flutter isn't not compressor surge. :thumb:

There is a difference in sound. Here are some threads about compressor surge (there are a few with videos). I'm not trying to scare you, just want you to be aware that there is a such thing as compressor surge. I doubt you have surge if your on the stock turbo and everything.

(I'm not sure how link the link/search id's last on this site, but if it doesn't work search "compressor surge" in titles only. It will give you a lot of informative threads.)

what do you guys think about the hks ssqv? ive heard a few people talking about it and they either loved it or hated it
