I know that there has been alot of discussion on these forums about this. I have done a few searches on it and found a coulple of things and links. All the forums tell you what everything is and how it works but nobody has posted any of there ACTUAL (GAIN, SET GAIN, SET, WARNING, AND LIMITER) functions. My profile is updated and as you can see i only have a Full exhaust and upgraged Turbo to a Evo III 16G. I also have a Turbosmart External Wastegate Setup so that it dont creep no more. If i turn my SET to 0% and everything else accordingly then i hold around 12-12.5 PSI. At that PSI i can keep up with slightly modified Mustangs And Camaro's. I want my car to be tuned to 15-16 PSI so i can walk them!! Everytime i have tried to tune it i get a bad spike about 4-5 PSI then it levels off. What can i do to not make it spike and what should everything be set at to run 15-16psi. If you could tell me then I'd appreciate any help at all.

I have a Greddy Profec B and love it. As for settings you could set it to your liking as long as your not spiking. When i had stock turbo i kept mine around 20psi (65%) and a gain of 20% i had very good luck with not spiking. If you want to run 15-16lbs you are gonna want to set your set% to around 40-45. Mine is set to 67% (20.2-20.7psi) right now on my 20g w/ internal wastegate, your external could be different. Spiking 4-5 isnt to awful bad, just set everything to stock and play with the set a little, 10% and watch, 20% and watch, etc. Get your psi right then set your gain a little. Lemme know if you got anymore questions. Ive had this profec-b for like a year and know what it can do to someone with the same setup that only has a MBC. Its hard to tell since you have only a 16g and an external and ive got 20g with internal.

BTW after each pull scroll until you see the peak boost then press and hold the big knob (one on the right) until it resets the peak boost. Do this after each pull so u can see what it spikes at. Most of the time it spikes so fast you cant read it. Just watch what it will hold and then check the peak boost so you know if your spiking alot of not.

Every car is different. You are just going to have to figure it out. You will be happier in the end because you will learn alot about the ProfecBspec2's capabilities.

If you are spiking, then your GAIN settings are not adjusted right, or your START BOOST is set too high.

I have my start boost about 1psi less than my desired boost.

im lost on how this works i dont wanna mess anything up can some one help explain this

SET - This mode is used to set the desired boost pressure. The % set in this mode is not the actual boost pressure. This feature controls the duty rate of the Valve Unit which controls the boost.

- Raise the % to increase the boost, and lower the % to decrease the boost.
- 100% setting will boost up to the Turbocharger/Wastegate's limit.
- 0% will boost the base boost (stock boost)

Gain - This mode is used to adjust the boost consistency. (Adjusts the sensitivity of the valve control).

- When boost spike occurs, lower the Gain value.
- When the boost falls off at high RPM, or the boost increases as RPM increases, raise the Gain value.
- Even if the SET boost is not changed, by increasing the Gain value, it will increase the boost.

Start Boost - This mode is used to adjust the boost response. This feature basically adjusts when to start opening the wastegate.

- If the Start Boost value is closer to the Set boost value, the spool up will be faster.
- If it is too close to the Set Boost, it will cause the boost to spike.

A few Boost Setting tips -

1) Monitor the boost display to set the Set Boost closest to the desired boost pressure. (Turn the Last Boost feature On and monitor the last boost that was recorded to help acheive the desired boost pressure.)
2) When boost spike does ocur, lower the Gain adjustment 2 increments at the time until it stabilizes. If the Boost falls off at higher RPMs, increase the Gain adjustment 2 increments at the time until it stabilizes. (On certain applications, it is possible that the boost pressure will not stabilize due to the engine and the turbocharger/wastegate characteristics).

3) When the boost pressure stablizes, go back to Set boost mode and adjust the boost to the desired pressure.

4) To improve on the boost response, adjust the Start Boost value closer to the Set boost pressure.

**Adjusting the Start Boost too close to the Set Boost pressure will cause boost spike. Try to get it set right before the boost spike occurs, this will be the best response possible for the application.

I hope some of these tips and what the different modes mean and do will help you understand the controller a little better.

ok that helps, so what should the Set be set at for 15 Psi the ill up the gain a little to get to 16 psi?

Well for my application I am also running 15 PSI. But I would have to go look on the unit itself to see what I have it set at and the car is not here with me it is at the shop. I can look a little later in the day when I am done with some business and post my settings for you.

Let me preface this before I do....My settings and your settings will be different because of different mods, engines and cars. What I have set in my controller may not be what you need to set yours at. I believe it is around 40% or somewhere near that number. Someone else has already posted they were also around this number running an OEM turbo for 15 PSI as well.

It basically boils down to you just taking the time and watching your boost guage and using the Last Boost setting on the unit. It may take some time, but you will gain a good working knowledge of the unit along the way :thumb:

ok, that helps alot right now i am on the stock BCS and i have the profec hooked up as a boost gauge and i am messing with the settings to find out what thoes settings are like to the stock BCS,

is that right? can i do that or will it be way off when i actually connect the Greddy to actually controll the boost

I am in no means an expert on this peice of equipment. So I am not going to tell you that you are doing something right or wrong with your equipment. But you need to go ahead and invest in a boost gauge so you can know whats going on there. The ProFec is a boost controller, not really a boost gauge. And someone else please step in here if I am not correct on this.

I do know that the display is not in PSI, it is in percents. So there is no way really to tell without using a formula to know what boost level you are running at like that. You do need to invest in an aftermarket boost guage for your car.

yea, i already ordered one, its going to be here monday, thats why i have not actually hooked up the greddy to control the boost

I honestly and personally would wait until that arrives before you start messing around with the boost controller.

You can read the profec as a boost gauge (although its probably not as accurate). You can set the controller to read in psi x 10 values. Just turn the controller off, hold down SELECT and within 2 seconds press the MODE button twice and the "x100 % kpa" will dissapear. So basically if the display is reading 150 your boost is 15psi.

ok I am going to give you a piece of knowledge that I aquired the hard way...If you get the setting where you want it on the controller and go to a smaller diameter hose running to the actuator or from the intercooler pipe this WILL change the duty cycle of the boost control solenoid and your previous settings will be way off. I know this may seem like a duh kinda statement but it is something that I obviously didnt think about and I like to think I am no ditz when it comes to these cars....in my case for example (long story short) I had a problem with the hose running to my actuator so I replaced it with a smaller diameter hose and set it to 40% duty cycle thinking that was a little lower than what I previously had it set to so I should be fine....well I kicked it down and mind you this a stock car, it shot straight up to 26 poundsWTF....now thank GOD my 154000 mile motor held this kinda boost but unfortunately I now have a nasty boost leak somewhere and cant even run stock boost without fuel cut....so just be careful and take your time with it and you will grow to love the controller.

I've had this bc for 4 months now and know how to adjust it but i still dont know anything about vacuum... mine always reads at idle -84, is this normal? Im new to dsm's and turbo cars in general. Ive read a couple posts stating that our cars are supposed to be around 20 vacuum, but 20 what? Can anyone give me a little peace of mind?:thumb:
