OK, brought my 90 TSi home a few days ago. Got a few questions.

1) Where does this vacuum tube go to? Should it actually HAVE vacuum? Because this one doesn't....

2) Is there anything that you notice missing in this picture? I looks to me like something may have belonged up against the firewall or something....

3) Is this sound lifter tick? I hear the humm of the engine, but there's also a rattling sound on top of that.

Thanks in advance... :talon:

Did you say if that ticking sound is intermittent? A couple weeks back, my car starting making this somewhat of a ticking noise every once in a while, so I tore the lower timing belt cover off to find I had a broken balance belt just sitting in there rattling(sp).

Ooohh... that's interesting.....

The ticking doesn't go away that I've noticed, but it could be that it just hasn't had a chance to. I'll take a look... it does sound like it's coming from that area.

Your TB is fine, the 90 TB (which the two other guys were talking about) is different from the 91-94 TB. You have two lines going into the top of the TB and two underneath it. By the looks of things it looks like someone went ahead and did a half ass job of removing the emissions. Look at the taboo site posted earlier, and go ahead and remove all that crap according to the diagram. Check to see if the charcoal canister is still under the battery, if it is remove it, if it isn't there, bonus, its a pain in the ass to take out.
There should be vaccum at that hose coming off the top of the TB, make sure that tube isn't plug inside the TB. Check the other 3 connections at the TB also (two top, two bottom), if there areno vac lines going to it as in the emissions diagram, be sure to plug those holes too. I can't see how the car would make boost with all those holes unplugged anyways.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking... aside from the fact that the engine would buck like crazy and want to stall with that much vacuum leakage........

Wouldn't the car throw a CEL without that emissions crap?
