Well I ordered a EVO3 16g from a seller on ebay the other day, finally got it in the mail, only to find that he sent me the wrong turbo. The one he sent me is way to big and i'm trying to figure out if I should keep it or just send it back and get the turbo I was planning on using. The turbo is a T70 and I don't know very much about them. Could someone give me some info on them if they are running one, how is the spool. I would imagine it would be very slow, turbo isn't ball-bearing but I do have the specs on it that came with it! i'll have to buy a new turbo manifold to bolt it up which it what is turning me away, don't know how to read compressor maps, so how much is this turbo good for, I kind of wanna keep it, but my goal is 420hp at the wheels, I figure a EVO 3 16g can make it.

Specs on turbo
Super T70 Turbo
SUPER 70 60.5mm • A/R RATIO .70 • TURBINE HOUSING A/R .84 •
COMPRESSOR HOUSING .70 • T3/T4 FLANGE

It all depends on how much you want to do. The t70 is a big turbo and you would be stepping from a t25 to a t70 with little knowledge of your car. You have a couple of things to consider:

You couldn't run a 16g up to 420 without some serious risks to your car. In fact I will call that impossible.

Do you know how to get adequate fuel to your new t70?

Do you have supporting mods for either turbo?

How mechanically proficient are you?

It sounds to me like you might be assuming that you can bolt on the turbo and go. But there is a lot of tedious work in the middle. I think the t70 is bad for you, start smaller and learn your way up. Its a question everyone asks, do I want to go big fast or fast but do it slowly.

That is a huge difference in turbos. That T-70 won't work with your motor, you'd barely see boost before redline. A 2.3 might have a chance on spooling it if it but there are many better options. If it's a name brand turbo it's worth a lot more than the EVO 3 though.

You'd see 420hp easier out of a 20g or a 50-trim of some sort.

Well, at least it's not as big as a "P" trim version. Anyways, I'd sell it if I were you...just not on Ebay. That thing's gotta be worth at least $650 used. I have experience with a "P" version (bigger) and even with anti-lag, it's not very streetable. Spool was 35psi @5700RPMs.

After looking around the internet a little bit it appears you got it from ssautochrome, the formatting of the turbo specs you posted is identical. Send it back and get the EVO 3 16g. That T70 is only $350 new, ha.

.84 AR on the hotside of the turbo is pretty big. You are going to see tons of lag. I wouldn't run a turbo like that unless I had a motor that was going to be able to pull way past redline in order to use the power that turbo is going to make in the upper part of the rpm range. I would definately think this one through but I would suggest you sending it back and going with the original turbo that you wanted.

420whp is pretty much impossible on a evo 16G. I would even say a 16G is pointless unless you have other supporting mods. Cant just strap on the biggest turbo you can find and push out that much power... even though i wish it was that easy

looks like flashburn is way ahead of me. my bad.

Send it back get the money back not the E316 (since you want 420whp) and get a 50 trim ball bearing turbo and youll hit that mark pretty easy with supporting mods and tuning.

Try and sell it on one of the mustang forums, I know alot of guys run them on 5.0's/4.6's (lag dosen't matter as much on a V8)

Kev

i know support mods are needed everyone, I was just trying to see which turbo would be able to reach around 400hp mark. I'm looking at some bullseye turbos right now, i'm just gonna send the turbo back and get my money back. I doubt it's a real T70 i'm pretty sure it's a SSautochrome turbo.

Checking out some turbos on extremepsi, and i'm thinking of something along these lines.

Its going to be hard to sell it because of where you ordered it. Send it back quick while you have the chance. If they wont give you your money back then get the 16g.

I wouldn't say it's impossible there are a few people that are really close to that number with the Evo 3. Here's a thread with a dyno sheet: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232556&highlight=dyno

That's on a Mustang Dyno, they read lower than the Dynojets that most people do their dyno runs on.
